rc boat - fishing help
 

hey guys - i got a cheap nikko boat - 2.5 feet long.

i am going to adirondaks over the weekend and we are on a quiet and calm lake.

i want to make a harness for the boat and add a leader and lure. just wanna try it out.


any tips on how to make this harness? thanks!

I would attach it to the transom of the boat, as if you were attaching a water ski line.

i was thinking of maybe attach harness from front of boat to back for leverage?

Depending on what you are fishing for, the boat may get eaten. LOL. Yes there is the chance the boat will get sucked under. Attaching the line to the back of the boat will allow the boat to run in its' most favored orientation ( forward ) under load, it will also keep the prop from fouling your tow line. I would take the boat to the water with either a bathroom scale, or a fish scale. see how much pressure it takes to put the boat ( almost) under, then if you don't want to run the same test line the whole distance, make a 'fuse' a low weight test that is the last 6 inches leading to the boat. If the boat gets tugged on hard enough to take it under, the line snaps. Try this, make the tow line the fuse, simply tie the tow line to the line from your pole, when the bait it taken, the fuse breaks, the boat comes free, and the rest you do like normal ( reel it in, son!)

ya i towed a beer can (full) to a neighboring boat in need with a nikko boat. u could also try to make a loop with the line and tie it really good the the under side of the hatch cover if there is one and close the hatch. i dont think the boat will go u nder all the way unless its over a foot long. i thnk

If you're using a Nikko boat and going for Smallies, the boat will be toast! No way will any Nikko handle those fighting brutes. Even those under 12" will give a good fight! If you get into Sunfish (Bluegills, Bream or whatever they call them in different parts of the country) they can tear up your little boat too! I used to fish in tournaments years ago before I got myself back into R/C boats. I know how hard even a small Smallmouth can fight. That boat won't have the power to land it even if it stays afloat.
Also, you might want to check with whoever controls fishing in New York State as it may be illegal to try to do this! The fines could be very high, a lot more than your boat cost.

haha ron i did it already. used a lighted bobber and worm. biggest was maybe a half a pound!

left the controller in bottom of boat and was saturated. need a new one? will that work?

The photos show my fishing platform for my 4' tug. The mechanism replaces the removable aft mahogany deck. The motor is operated via a servo-actuated switch. The end of the line is free to slip off the reel in case a BIG fish is hooked. The photos pretty much explain how everything works.
