Hello Boaters!

I've been out of the boating hobby for a few years. However, things don't seem to have changed too much. It however does appear like there are less boats? I mean it seems like the major distributors carry less parts and have less boats. It even seems that hobby shops are carrying less stuff! Has anyone else noticed that?

I'm mainly writing to see if anyone has bullt or run the Dumas
Lil Rascal? If some of you have owned it how much did it weigh?
Did you run gas or electric? I've got an extra nitro engine laying around, but though electric would be a lot of fun. I'm seriously
wondering if EXTREME speed is possible with this boat, say
80+mph, or it too small to handle that kind of speed?

Go over to www.intlwaters.com . A guy over there is building one up using the new K&B .18 engine. Look at "Hydro-therapy" in there. 80 MPH is too much to expect out of that hull. One member (Glenn Quarles) in there has built a specially built 'rigger in there and is seeing 75+ MPH with a Rossi .12.
There are a lot of boats out here, most of the better ones aren't advertised in boating magazines or available through typical Hobby Shops.
The International Waters site also has plans and kits coming out for .12 'riggers. you will see a lot more appearing soon as the IMPBA has just approved as of Tuesday an increase in the displacement to .129 cu. in. so that more of the current R/C car and truck engines can now be raced in the "A" class.

a dumas lil rascal will never run 80, sorry, Ive actually seen the fastest little rascal to date(owned by brian prusse). Ran 56 with a webra .11. The boat is simply out of date.

i built a little rascal. it was a fun boat to build.i run aluminum riggers an a couple of roadrunners. my son wanted to try his own. i put an os 15 air cooled pull start buggy motor in it; though the boat design is old it still works great. the boat would keep up with non modified 21 tunnel hulls, if you got the time and an old motor its worth it. Although the boats not that big so 80 mph is gonna be tough.

I will be having a kit coming out soon, a .12-sized outrigger. The prototype has been running 58 MPH on radar with a mild engine.

Has anyone built the little rascal with an electric? How fast do you think one will go with a 17 turn motor? Thanks

The Lil Rascal is an outdated design and not really made for an electric motor. There are much better kits now that are probably cheaper, lighter and faster than the Dumas not to mention better quality wood.
