Issues with Futaba FASST 2.4 ?

Last sunday we had another club race and it was pretty hot that day. Before I had a chance to go into my first heat I lost rudder control and consequently beached the boat. No failsafe 'cause I run on PPM mode. No damage, other then the rudder was kicked up due to the sheared safety pin. In second heat I was in the lead, last lap and all of a sudden lost radio control completly. Ran onshore again. Couldn't even cut the engine. After unplugging and checking the battery nothing found. Plugged in battery, radio works[sm=confused.gif]. Meantime two of my buddies (same radios) had similar problems. One boat's radio didn't work at all. The other radio was chittery. Later in the afternoon (third heat) everything worked fine for me with my boat and radio. I heard somebody saying that the Futaba FASST radios are acting up when getting too hot. Can anybody confirm that or had similar experiences.

RE: Issues with Futaba FASST 2.4 ?

yes,

I heard the same thing on a different site.
a few things you can do:

try not to have the Rx under your pipe,
if you are using a clear plexy for your radio box, switch to a smoked Grey, Amber (yellow), blue, red, whatever color you can get, it will help with the temp.

I haven't had problems yet (knock on wood).

I don't understand when you say "no Fail Safe because you run on PPM mode"?
I too run on PPM mode and I use the built in Fail Safe from the system, all you need to do is once your Tx and Rx are on, apply and hold the brake (cut throttle) and while holding press on the F/S button on the back of your Tx, let go and your done, Fail Safe is set.

you need to do it every time you turn the radio on but it only takes 1 second.

Dan.

RE: Issues with Futaba FASST 2.4 ?

I have 3 friends and myself that are having issues with fasst. We race 1/8 scale offroad. Futaba has issued a notice asking people to vent thier radio boxes, which is stupid for boats.
