? Wiring Demon

I'm a newbee to RC boating, so I could use your help. I have a cheap boat with 2 engines. I wanted to make a sweet Batboat, so I took the engines and receiver out of the cheap boat and put it into an even cheaper Batboat from Toys R Us. (I told you I was a newb).
Anyway, I only had 4 wires to cut (red and Black for each motor) so that I could extend them a little longer to reposition the receiver to fit in the new Batboat. I was very careful and checked everything over and over and for some reason now each motor is going the opposite direction.!? One is going clockwise and the other counterclockwise and the boat is going no where as you can imagine.
Sooo
1. what would cause this
2. which direction should the prop be turning

Thanks again for your help !!!

One side of the boat is trying to go backwards. Reverse the connections to that motor. They will both be trying to bo forwards now. If the blades of both props are angled the same, they both need to turn the same way.
