getting a "non slip" paint finish
 

Hi, can anyone help please. I am completing the refurb of an old 1960 Aerokits Firetender (Fireboat). The deck needs to be painted in "non slip" paint. The best way to describe the finish is that it would look like 1500grit wet and dry stuck on the deck. Its a fast electric, I dont have a spray gun, all paintwork is done with aerosols, and I dont want to stick wet and dry to the deck, it has to look good and authentic.
I dont mind spraying something on, then painting over it, to get the finish. Any help appreciated.

Glue on a fine grit sandpaper then! You use what you have and if it looks realistic then fine. Other than that it might be difficult trying to find something thin enough.

Hi Ron, thanks for reply. I am not sure about doing this, as I will have to have a couple of joins on the paper, which might not look right. I was also worried that eventually the paper would get water under it and cause the wood (its an all ply boat) to start rotting, remember its a very old boat, and great sentimental value. The reson for the refdurb was exactly that, the deck had got water under it and was rotting from the inside. I agree, it would give the finish though, but would also mean stripping back all the primer to make sure the glue adhered.
I know some of the lifeboat guys do this, I wonder if anybody out there has done it to a similar fast electric?

as soon as you finish painting your boat while paint is still wet sprinkle some caster sugar on it it sounds a little strange but once the paint is completly dry you wash the boat and disolve the sugar and are left with tiny pits like sand paper just make sure you are consistant with dispersing the sugar and only on the last coat of paint if the boat is already painted rub it back a little and spray on a coat of clear over it and then try
