Help/Identify Fuji Boat motor
 

I recently inherited a bunch of old RC planes and a boat that has an outboard motor on it that I having difficulty finding info on. Any help is greatly appreciated. All I know about it is that it's a gas powered outboard motor about 8" tall, the coloring is white with a brown cowling and a white top that flips up for access to the "recoil'. The only markings I can find on it is a sticker on the side of the cowling that says FUJI MODEL ENGINE. I beleive it is 30+ yrs old. Help !

Fuji made outboards up to .15 cu. in. and were the fastest available for their time. Consider it to be a vintage collectable item, not too many around but do occasionally pop up here and there on eBay.

A quick search on Google only turned up a couple results. The first one was a collectors shop in the UK [link=http://www.forest-classics.co.uk/fuji_outboard.htm]here[/link] that gives a rundown on its specs. Quite nice to take note of.

The second is a repainted example thats currently up for sale on eBay. You might want to track it and see what it goes for. Looks like it would probably sell for $300 or so more if it's the same as what you have in good condition, and consider it impossible to find any type of parts available for it. If it's in good shape I wouldn't monkey with anything on it if planning on selling it.

Fuji is one of the few glow powered outboards were built somewhat to actual looks of an outboard.

Metal toy outboards are considered quite a treasure, most were made as promotional models or factory employee awards. K&O was a large company at one time that made the static display kind and carried just a small electric motor inside just to turn the prop, not much for performace but it did make them usable.

Fuji of Japan is defunct, but its name and some of its tooling and manufacture is currently owned by [link=http://www.mecoa.com/index.htm]MECOA[/link] of the USA. You probably might be able to contact them about it, but nothing of the outboard line is manufactured anymore.

You inherited a rare piece of glow power boating history with having it.

Jetpack, thanks so much for your response to my inquiry. The motor I have is exactly like the first one shown in your attachment, the brown and white one with the turquise box behind it. Would you have any more info on that style or know where I might find more specifics? Any idea what something like that is worth? The one I have is a little dirty from sitting in a basement for many years, but I do not think it was ever used. It does turn over. Thanks again for your help.

Oops- I didn't see the link to the UK collector. I checked it out and that's it.

If you go to the ebay auction, you might be able to contact the seller and ask them if they know more about it. Usually the person selling is a collector, and has all kinds of leads to follow.
