toy boat conversion
i bought a toy boat for about $30 and put my rc car gear in. the stock
motor was weak so i put a 3.6v johnson out of a riobi cordless screwdriver. it runs on 5 cells my question is,even if im cruising i hit full throttle and it flips/capsize. I assume it just has too much power and is rotating the boat instead of the prop. it has a little fin at the bottom,i was thinking of extending it downward like a sailboat, to give it more stability. it is powerful and quite quick but when it flips it gets full of water. heres a pic with the old stuff next to it. cheers. http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/DSC00210.jpg |
RE: toy boat conversion
With a motor far more powerful than the hull maker intended, flipping is perfectly reasonable. Every action does, as Newton noted, have and equal and opposite reaction.
Your proposed fin might work, a trim tab on the transom might work. |
RE: toy boat conversion
the other thing is the weight/position of the batteries. this thing was designed to run on
6 AA batteries, not 5 sub-c batteries. they sit pretty much right on top of the boat too. maybe if they where in the hull? and less cells? as i said though it cruises well, but if you dump the throttle she rolls.cheers. |
RE: toy boat conversion
ok well no ones really biting on this. seeing as the hull was filling up
with water and the esc and reciever were not working when wet, i waterproofed it. the esc is in a plastic bag ziptied, and the reciever i pulled out of its case and melted wax all over it. here are some pics. i tested it in my bath.it runs on 3 cells now inside the hull, not on top. Under heavy throttle she goes straight.[8D]runs completely submerged. it only stops when water bridges the 2 contacts of the crystal. pull the crystal out, blow, keep going.this boat has still cost me pretty much nothing.now runs completly under water. reciever before: http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/DSC00211.jpg reciever after: http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/DSC00212.jpg esc: http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/DSC00214.jpg |
