dont they need a 12 volt power source? im putting it in a medium sized sailboat. i was thinking something 9 volt.

I built one out of a child's electric squirt gun ran on 2 "C" size batteries...actually...I had it pumped out side the hull with a filter... I made a cannon to squirt on-lookers...in a PT-109 . I would work just the same for your application :D

RAM products makes a small 6-12V automatic bilge pump, which is available from Tower Hobbies for about $25.
