Default Old Nitro Rustler I just picked up..

I picked this Nitro Rustler A few days ago for dirt cheap. I was told the Truck was 8 to 10 years old. Is there any way to confirm the age on this truck? Also I was told the truck has not been started in a few years and they tried to start it and it will not start. What would be the proper steps to take to start a truck that has not been started in a few years? And worst case if the motor is messed up witch motor would I Need to replace this one? thanks for any help info or comments..

Nice find R/C10Guy,
What id do is....put a couple of drops of after run oil down the glo plug hole
and spin er over a few times (make its not a dry cylender)
then start it up.
How do the fuel lines look ?
I have that exact wheel tire combo on one of my rustlers. works great on concrete driveway.

Spin the engine by hand, (the flywheel) Can you feel compression ?
Also set the needles back to factory.

Even for the low price you bought one of the worst Traxxas cars ever. The engines are also very weak.

Why do you have to me so Negative. From the research I have done these trucks seem to have pretty good reveiws. Also For this truck to be 8 to 10 years old it seems to be in pretty awesome shape. And at the give away price I paid I could not pass it up. It looks like a well built machine that I would like to get running again 1 day...

Ive got a .15 in a old t-maxx and its actually a better engine than the 2.5 in my newer maxx !
Also, id get rid of the eazy start glo wire and use a glo stick.
those wires never worked well for me.

Thanks for all the awesome info. I think it would be nice to get this truck running again. and worst case if the motor is shot. I guess I may be in the market for a new or good shape used .15 Motor..

A better choice would have been a Rustler or Firestorm which both have an alluminum chassis. First think about upgrading the chassis and cleaning the car with compressed air.

This is my second Nitro. I had a T Maxx 2.5 that I tricked out and upgraded to a 3.3. I have several Electric Cars and a totally tricked out vintage RC10T. This truck I just picked up has a metal base to it. I also love and enjoy the old stuff much better and really enjoy working on The older ones and running them as well...

I guess you must not have seen the part where he said cheap.... You cant be real picky when you are looking for something dirt cheap.

And that truck is a RUSTLER!

It has the full aluminum chassis. It also has the older chassis because it isnt blue. Its should be a good truck though[8D]

I purchased the truck from the original owner. He said he had the box it came in but could not find it. I asked Him what model Traxxas the truck is. He said he could not remember. So From the research I did and from some info a Friend gave me. We both thought the Truck appeared to be a Nitro Sport. When I was looking at pictures of the Nitro sport and Rustler online .To me they Both looked the same. Being that this truck has a metal Chassis is it possible that it could be a Rustler and not a Nitro sport?

Yes, the nitro sport chassis was half plastic, and half aluminum. Here is my old nitro sport I sold. You can see how the bottom is. That and the steering setup are the only 2 differences between a sport and a rustler. You can see the steering servo right in front of the receiver on my sport. The rustler like yours lays on its side under the top deck of the chassis and has the bellcranks that attatch to the tie rods. Its a better system. You definately have a rustler[8D]

Here is a video of my old nitro rustler with the stock pro .15 and a stinger pipe. I thought it ran really well.

I had a nitro firestorm with the stock HPI engine in it, and Im pretty sure this old nitro rustler was just as fast.

That engine that was on that rustler was given to me with some stuff I had bought. It was hard to turn over and gunked up. I cleaned it out with brake clean and WD40 and reassembled it all and it turned over as smooth as could be and felt to have decent compression. So I put it together and it ran great until I sold it. So just clean up that engine you have good, make sure it all looks good, and see if you can get it to run[8D]

What is your probelem lol? This guy picked this thing up for cheap, so it's not going to be some fantastic rc car. RC 10 guy, Pro .15s are really cheap but some of the pro .15 engines aren't so good, some have some real problems. I would suggest a 2.5r if you can't get the engine fired up and running.
