I think Plasma is rather lucky. My guess is they don't have CHL permits in West Virginia? Someone clock me in the choppers because I asked a generous person to replace a miniscule tangible rc car and I am going to vacate his cranial cavity with a 9mm. A perfectly legitimate excuse to exercise my right to carry and conceal.

I hear ya. The guy had no right to expect another free RC because he gambled away his son's.
There's a difference between borrowing and "Can I have another free 300+ dollar toy car?". I wouldn't hesitate to lend someone my glow ignitor as long as I got it back once their motor was running, but they can -beep- right the hell off if they think they're going to get to keep any of my gear for free. I busted my ass getting what little gear I do have. I might put a tank or two of fuel in your car, I might lend you my glow ignitor, maybe a duracell or three, perhaps misc bits of hardware. Hell I may even be willing to hand out some of my unused gear to someone who can't afford to get their own. But...an entire car?
Though if I were the OP in that situation I would have clocked the guy too. Not for the begging, mind you, but because he was irresponsible enough to gamble his son's gear away.

So that givea a person a right to commit a felony assault? What if I were at the flying field and asked if I could borrow your glow igniter? Do I get a black eye or busted jaw for that request?

Pathetic -
both that the guy would gamble his son's toy car off, and that the OP's first reaction is to punch him. What kind of rational was behind this?
You posted with the intentions of telling us that society is corrupt, then explain how you reacted to it by punching a man over an RC car that did not belong to you!
If this isn't a perfect example as to how North American society is ruined...

THAT is what is wrong with "North American society" The blindly self-righteous judgementality strewn about our "beliefs and principles" like so many Legos ina 5-year olds bedroom.
I am sure if these do-gooders were in this situation themselves they would act entirely different than their tongues (er, keyboards) would lead one to believe. They may not have punched the man, but I highly doubt the eye turned would be blind.

Obvious you have never talked to a drunk.......If he is drunk and gambling his kids toys away then begging for another free one he is way beyond a talking too. Hey but maybe we can send in a priest to show him the light.

I know that I would have been disgusted with the fathers behavior - giving away a child's toy for alcohol and gambling is just plain immoral - but I would NEVER punch someone if they had not personally physically assaulted me first.
What does that tell the child who is obviously living with a father with drinking and gambling problems? If you have a problem, deal with violence?
I am free to make my opinion, the same as everyone else here. As stated above, it is true that I was not in the situation at the time, but neither were any of you, the OP aside.
I would not have punched the man, unlike the blatant generalisation above suggests. If it can be assumed that everyone would have responded illegally and violently, there is a much bigger problem than gambling and drinking.
Cooldriver- you are right on the money... avoiding making the situation more painful is the best option.

My father is a retired master Sargent. my first job as a carpenter my boss was retired marine. His good friend and electrician that helped us from time to time was a retired Lt.colonel.
I was surrounded most of my young life by military personal.
There whole life philosophy was " KICK ASS, TAKE NAMES, ASK QUESTIONS LATER. There way, was the right way, and if you didn't see it that way, well, kick ass and take names.
These men have since been deceased and I have to thank them for defending our country. It was not violence, it is what they were taught to do Honorably.

Buddy, you're missing the big picture. Every cloud has a silver lining, the silver lining here? You have just found a new drinking buddy who actually has a wife who will let him play and maybe she'll thank you for babysitting her husband by just leaving you all alone at the track... I hate it when we're having a great time and some wife calls or drives up telling her husband that dinners ready and its time to come home! ****, it took me two or three weeks to get time to go to the field, you think I'm going home because all the civilized people are sitting for their supper?! Negative Houston, we'll eat at or cook at the field etc... but I digress...

Hmm.. Wow..
Really makes me sad to see how many people actually support the idea of using violence to solve problems or show a dissaproval of a situation.
I am all for self defense... But... Wow...

In front of the dad, I would tell the kid; no he cannot have another car because his dad is a drunk and would just gamble another one away. He is welcome to come drive some stuff but nothing to take home.
The son would be really pissed at the dad, something that would stay with him forever. No need for hitting anyone.

I do sympathise with what you tried to do and why you tried to do it. But it sounds to me like what that kid needs most is a good role model, not a radio-controlled model.
His dad sure sounds like a douche, no doubt about it, but by hitting him you didn't give that kid what he really needs - a positive role model.
Children need guidance and positive influences so much more than they need charity. Don't give up on folks because of one douche - but also be prepared to learn something from this experience yourself (we never stop learning), and think about how you can best influence those around you in future.
Take it easy.

I skimmed through this pretty quick so let me know if I got anything wrong here. A guy gives his RC something to kid who he thinks could make good use of it. His father loses it gambling while drunk. Said father asks the guy who gave it to his son if he has any more RC stuff he can part with.
Correct so far?
OP punches the guy out for being a lousy dad.
And some of you find fault with the OP? The drunk dad's behaviour with relation to the RC gambling loss is probably just the tip of the iceberg. These are the people you read about a few years down the line that may have commted horrid acts that everyone who knew them says "oh, not him".
Felony assault. What pink panties some of us wear. And then to bring religion into it? The guy deserved to be clocked. You can debate until the end of time if it was moral or whatever, but the guy had what was coming to him. Would there may have been consequences for the OP, sure. We now live in a world where if you spill hot coffeee on your lap you can sue someone. Like we didn't know it was hot. We can sue the tobacco companies for getting cancer when we know that is the risk. Funny world it has become, hasn't it?
And then up comes "do unto others". Some of the slime that crawls the Earth, whether we like it or not, know no other justice. That's why we have, along with most of the rest of the world, a military. Because some just don't get it, and need it expained to them in very direct means. You can fill in your own examples of people through the years who "have deserved what was coming to them."
I agree, violence shouldn't be the answer. But sometimes, on occcasion, it is the only form of diplomacy that some understand. And that in itself is sad, but sometimes all the depraved understand.

To the OP- Well done. Nuff said. You have my support.
To the naysayers, the ''violence solves nothing'' crowd and the ''you did wrong!!!1!'' crowd- get a life. You wouldnt have hit the guy. Great on you! Thats YOUR choice! just the same as the OP's choice was to hit the man. But to sit here and flame the guy for his choice? What if we sat here and did the same to you for NOT being the kind to break knuckles? Of course, with the shoe on the other foot your panties would be bunched so tight theyd cause a rash. This COULD all be solved with ''Let's all be ADULTS and let differences go, not my choice not my problem, think I'll mind my own business then'', but that would entail expecting ''adults'' on an internet forum.
And to our little religionist?- Guess if ya read that bedtime story a little closer you would see all the talk about not condemning, judging OR pushing religion onto your fellow man. As well as the parts about not bringing it out of the box in the manner you did. Fine tho, continue denying the word that which you wear as a false badge, and -if there is such a place- , I will see you in hell.
