Default Motor Pinion Gear Sizes

Hi guys, can someone please tell me re difference it makes between putting a pinion gear with 19 teeth on a car compared to one with 30 teeth? Do pinion gears with more teeth gear a car up to go faster or slower or how does it work?

Cheers

bigger pinion/smaller spur = faster/less torque
smaller pinion/bigger spur = slower/more torque

thanks for the info guys.. but just to be clear.. there are a lot of teeth variations.. I get the difference between 48p and 64p but was wondering what difference say I pinion gear with 20 teth would do over one with 21 teeth... the differences are so small..why would it matter?

well, to really specify the difference you'd have to look at a specific setup. lets use the rc10t4.2 with 4" tires, an 78 tooth spur and a tekin 17.5t 2400kv motor (used in ROAR stock spec racing). with this setup an 2s, a 20t pinion will move the truck at 20.84 MPH and a 21t pinion will do 21.88 MPH. the purpose is for fine tuning and on high speed setups (or vehicles with no gearbox) the difference of 1 tooth on the pinion can mean as much as 5 MPH which could be what makes the motor fry.
