Do you want nitro or electric and the Traxxas vxl isn't that good it needs heaps of upgrades and that cost money it will cost you an extra $200 to get all the upgrades needed for the e revo to run how you would want it.
If you are looking at nitro I would recommend the ofna lx2 or the hyper 7. What scale car are you looking for?
if you would like an electric I would go for the ofna hyper tt roller and then ya can put your own electronics on it, I had it and I regret getting rid of it it was a very durable and fun car do drive, it do wheelies on command, lot of fun.

team associated SC10rs! I love mine. 30+ hours of bashing time on mine and hardly any breaks. Replaced the rear tires, spur gear and 2 drive pins...that's it!
being a short course truck means it does well on pavement, dirt, gravel, and short grass. Jumps well, handles well and can take a beating.
$300 US, plus you need to buy a battery (2s 5000mah lipo recommended)

My Feedback: (1)

I'll second the OFNA Hyper TT. I bought one when I wanted a 4wd, but not what I saw as "the giant-sized" short course trucks. My RC shop is small. I started the hobby with an Evader, and wanted something about that size, but 4wd. I got the Hyper TT http://www.nitrohouse.com/Hyper-10TT...it_p_5060.html It says "kit", but really comes as a "roller": fully assembled, minus electronics and body paint. It's selling for $209 now. (Got mine for $189)
It needs a T-Bone Racing bumper set to really make it bomb-proof: http://t-bone-racing.net/Hyper-TT-c275/
Add a FlySky GT3C radio system for $60 http://www.amazon.com/FlySky-GT-3C-2...ds=flysky+gt3c
and a HobbyWing motor system for $75 http://www.hobbypartz.com/ezrun-35a-9t-3650-motor.html
A good servo: http://www.servocity.com/html/hs-796...l#.VA3hvleymSp
and a Lipo and charger and you're good to go.
