Default problem with RadioShack Hummer H2

Hi! I'm new to RC. I have an old H2 that seems new and was used a few times, but when we bought a brand new battery and plugged it in, it only pulses forward and seemsto drain the battery because the headlights flash. My son would love to get this thing going, but I am clueless. Anyone able to help?

Chances are the battery is NiCd technology, and they often don’t hold a charge if they’re old. I’d suggest finding a new battery pack for it, as well as a better charger. The charger that comes with the trucks typically doesn’t stop charging once the pack is full, which really beats the pack up if the operator doesn’t disconnect the battery when it is full (warm to the touch; about 90*F). A picture of the truck/battery pack would help identify what you have and help us advise you what to do next.

Bought a new nimh battery. Does the same thing. Here's the vehicle. It was in storage for about 10 years
