Question Absolute noob, need some help

So I've got a few cars now and I understand all the parts and what they do, and now I need to learn a bit more,

I've got an FTX vantage and an FTX carnage, both brushed and both fully stock
I've also Got an unknown drifter, which I have no idea about the part names inside and the name of company that the car is from.

what's happened is that my drifter and my vantage has both started smoking while I have run them, now I believe this has come from the motor but I'm not 100% sure whether it is something else instead. The only thing they had in common where the batteries i put in them (could this be a possible issue) but my Vantage reciever has seem to also gone wrong as it also doesn't seem to work. Any reasons why they both keep dying. any general information that I will need to know is welcome.

Thank you

Brushed motors tend to burn out fairly quick, especially if you upgrade to a high capacity LiPo with extended run times, I would consider replacing the motor and invest in a temp gun:
What gearing for upgraded electronics?

Good Luck!
