Unhappy Suspect Nitro engine running too rich (Hyper 21) please help, video included, Thanks.

Hello all,

This is my 3rd tank of fuel. I have adjusted the LSN but not touched the HSN. I believe the LSN was and is still too rich. Here's what's happened today:

1) When I tried to start it, it would rev and cut out after 1 or 2 seconds even with the glow plug battery still connected.

2) I then turned the LSN clockwise a bit and it started up fine. Left it running to burn off 3/4 of the tank of fuel. Smoke coming out all the way and oil dripping. I could only start it with a slightly higher idle before turning it down again.

3) Sounds rough and bogs a bit as per the video.

4) When I did a run, on the 3rd attempt the engine just cut out after I released the throttle.

5) According to many experts and the manual, the engine settings out of the box are perfect for running in. However, with these Medium glow plugs the temps appear to be high (just under 95 Deg C at times). Also, when I turn the low end needle counter clockwise the revs dropped and the head eventually got about 10 Dec C cooler. However I will say that I did get oil dripping out of the pipe at all times. Fuel is Optifuel 25%.

URL to the video:

The idle is open 1 mm - 1.5 mm, HSN still at the factory setting.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

You are tuning the engine backwards ,you need to lean the Hsn in some ,therefore your engine is working harder due to the ecessive fuel!
The Lsn mainly controls the idle to full throttle transition ,an is usually adjusted after the HSN is tuned!

Hello,

Thanks. That explains a few things I've been observing. Well since the engine run in is complete, I'll lean the HSN according to the user manual and see what happens. Thanks again.

Wheels spinning in idle was caused by one of the clutch shoe's spring broken. I have replaced that and it seems to have corrected the problem. I'll know for sure this evening.
