Default Car Not Rolling Freely - Motor Problem?

I have a brand new Kyosho Optima Mid re-release that will not roll freely at all - the car has not yet been run under power. The friction is coming from the brand new Hobbywing Xerun 10.5T motor. The drivetrain (without the motor) is smooth as butter...and it's not a mesh problem between the pinion and spur. I can spin the motor shaft fairly easily with my fingers, but rolling the car on the ground obviously spins it faster than I could with the fingers. I haven't had an RC car since the 80's, so perhaps this is normal with modern brushless motors due to the strong magnets. Perhaps I ruined the motor with my soldering iron while attempting to solder the 3 leads - I had to cook the hell out of it to get the solder to melt. Any help will be much appreciated.

could be the gear ratio. when you spin the tires you're spinning the gearbox in reverse so you're reversing the ratio. the only way to find out what's up is to put power to it. what i would do is pull the pinion gear off. hook a battery up, calibrate the ESC, and apply power slowly and see if the motor works like its supposed to under power. then attach the pinion gear and try it again.
