If the offtopic forum was censored and didnt add to you psots count (to prevent people jsut trying to up the post count with spam) then it would be a good idea
who cares about post count, it dosent say anything. I have been here on RCU for i dunno ??? 18 months ???. and i only post when i know answers. there are some people who have been here for 2 or 3 months and have post counts higher then 1000 and i ll they do is say "i agree"

it dosent matter how man post you have, its what you say in them!

and another thing, people are going to continue to talk about off-topic stuff anyway

thats not what pm's are for. if i'd get a pm from someone wanting to talk about politics, religion or sex (since those are your big 3), i'd first wonder who the heck was pm'ing me and why. its different if you bring up a topic open to discussion among lots of people. and as far as "flaming" goes....so what? get thicker e-skin. it's unrealistic to think that if someone disagrees with you or just plain doesnt like you that they'll magically dissapear.

True But I think it would cut spam if posting in a off topic forum would not up you post count.

It is alos very annoying to see in a thread about a rc saying "OMG I have 1000 posts I'm so 1337"

i think it would be a good idea cause then people could tell funny stories and stuff, and talk about things like sports.... doesnt the airplane forums have an off topic area?

NO! dont ignore it! stick up for yourself and dont think you have to stop doing something you like to do (post here) just because someone says something mean to you. return fire and stand your ground. if i'm posting in a thread and someone starts trouble i'm not going to avoid it just because of one person. bah. i guess some people just dont get it.

Isn't this whole thread off-topic?

Seriously, an off-topic forum would be fun, as long as politics and religion were not allowed.

This was discussed elsewhere and Marc decided against having an Off-Topic forum.

And I think thats "final"!
