Sounds like a good idea for planes. But if someone steals your rc car they most likely would notice the gps unit on the car and throw it out the window or break it. So you can not track them.

I have also been looking for a garmin gps for some speed runs that I do once in a great while. I dont know which one to get though? My spending limit is around $50-$80.

Don't be silly, Garmin is the leading brand name in GPS technology today. Magellan is second best.

hmm good point... someone should make a small tracer or something and embed it in with the rx. however there you would have to find a constant battery source for it and who knows what kind of range you would be able to get from it. y dont they start stamping serial numbers on everyhing worth alot. i think i heard orion put s/n in their new engines but im not sure if its true or not bc ive never seen one in real life.

I'm not to sure what your asking. Is it for straight line speed? Or for On the track speed? I have been looking into the spectrum Telemetry system and i am pretty sure it gives you speed.
