Venom Smart Temp Fail Safe Question
I was wondering if anybody uses this: http://www.rcplanet.com/Venom_Smart_..._p/vnr0605.htm
I was thinking about getting it instead of getting a temp gun and a fail safe separately. I just wanted your opinions on it and see if anyone uses it and how it is working for them.
Thanks

RE: Venom Smart Temp Fail Safe Question
On the forums, I've seen a lot of people say that the Venom Smart Temp is crap. I had it for a while to use with my AM radio and it protected against radio interference great, however, I think it was giving me false readings with my temperature. And since it's setup to limit the amount of throttle control when the engine reaches a certain temperature, all of a sudden you will have basically no throttle movement depending on what percentage you set it at. You'll understand if you download a PDF of the manual. I'd say get a micro failsafe like this: http://www.ofna.com/failsafe-micro.html. A temperature gun is a handy tool to have, believe it or not, and I would like to get one. I find it more accurate than on-board temperature probes. In the end, it's all up to you.

RE: Venom Smart Temp Fail Safe Question
What fail safe would you guys recommend I'm looking at these two.
http://www.rcplanet.com/Venom_Fail_Safe_p/vnr0620.htm
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXEYG2&P=ML
I like the fact the micro is so small, but I don't know anything about either one.
Also what temp gun would you guys recommend, I'm looking at this one.

I don't know anything about temp guns either this one just caught my eye
Thanks

RE: Venom Smart Temp Fail Safe Question
I say get the Ofna failsafe because I see a lot of people putting in positive feedback about it. I haven't used it personally, but I've seen people recommend it countless times. For a temp gun, I'd recommend a Raytek temperature gun. They're for regular cars but their accuracy is extremely precise. You could find one on ebay for cheap with an included laser built in. Ofna Micro Failsafe and Raytek temp gun should do the trick.

RE: Venom Smart Temp Fail Safe Question
I know you've already made up your mind but I just wanted to add this to the discussion;
The reason I would not buy the venom failsafe/temp combo is due to versitility.
The Venom thing is pretty much a one-trick-pony. With a seperate failsafe/temp gun you can check the temp on pretty much anything, not just the engine that it's installed on. That's nice when you have multiple rc's. If you have multiple rc's it's also less expensive. Failsafes can be had for $15-$20 (really they're all pretty much the same so go cheap) and a temp gun for $30 so All I need is 1 temp gun and then failsafes for the cars/trucks.
Also, the Duratrax is a good inexpensive gun that's plenty accurate for rc use. Now if you're a 1:1 car mech then you'll want a nicer temp gun...but if you're 1:1 car tech you probably already have a nicer one, so that point is moot.

RE: Venom Smart Temp Fail Safe Question
The temperature gauge and fail safe on my React work great. It does not shout the vehicle down if it goes over the temp you set but it vibrates to let you know. I have all so checked the temperature with several high dollar temp guns and has all ways been with in 10 degrees or less.
When I was running AM and FM radio I ran the standard Venom fail safe and it worked fine.

RE: Venom Smart Temp Fail Safe Question
Ive never had problems with my venom smarttemp aswell. I barely use the temp guage on it, i look at it once it a while. Its accurate to an extent.. It goes to about 90c after startup and a 2 minute warm up laps without the shell on
I would rather have a telemetry radio system though.. that'd be sweet.
