Default Help with Keeping My Motor Cool!!

When I use my cars the motors are always hot! I understand that they create heat but mine gets hot enough to burn you! Do I have the wrong gearing? What can I do to keep this thing cooler while I am running it?

-I run a (Team Orion 12 Turn Double Formula SV2 Pro) in one car and a (Venom Fireball 21T Double Motor) in the other.-

What esc do you have? It has to be able to handle motor below 12 turns. What gearings do you have?

I have an Duratrax Intellispeed 12T Modified Reverse. I have the stock gearing in the Duratrax Evader ST and the same for the Converted Hpi Nitro Rush. Could I use a fan?

What is the gearing for the Evader? I forgot what stock gearing is for it. Since it is bascially a older Losi truck (Losi sold their xx design to duratrax) I can help you with gearing.

I don't know how to calculate gear ratio's but this is the (Spur Gear 88T 48P) and this is the (Pinion Gear 48P 20T).

You can either gear down or volt down to cool down.

I don't know how to calculate gear ratio's but this is the (Spur Gear 88T 48P) and this is the (Pinion Gear 48P 20T).

Your gear ratio is 4.4:1 It is calculated by dividing the number of teeth (88T) on your spur gear by the number of teeth (20T) on your pinion gear (88/20) - simple as that! The 48P on both gears is the pitch of the gears. Pinion and spur gears must be the same pitch to mesh correctly.

What gear ratio and gears do you suggest? Amount of teeth? And Should I change the Spur Gear or the Pinion Gear or Both?

Drop the pinion down first and see how the temperatures are. When you move to a hotter motor, you almost always have to gear down.

It won't matter which gear you change. What is the actual motor temp and ratio.

I don't know the actual temp but it is hot enough that you don't wanna touch it!

We'l just have to take a guess then and drop down 10-20% in ratio.

I can get a 23T pinion gear and a 90T, 86T, 81T, and a 78T spur gear. So to get the lowest ratio I need the 23T pinion and the 78T spur gear. Will I be fine with using the 23T and the 81T?

no, go the other way , 88 tooth and a (lower than 20) pinion. Try a 18 tooth. It should be noticably quicker acceleration and cooler , longer run-time .

With a 12t motor I would suggest runnin between a 15 and 12 tooth pinion.

I'd agree, and the 21 turn might be able to use a 16-18 tooth.
