Default Do you need to clean the diff??

I have just rebuilt my differential for my Tamiya TT-01.. I was wondering if I should clean the differentials for my truck?? I mean by washing it and then reapplying the grease??is it necessary???

If you want to have a smooth diff(better steering) yes it is necessary.

I would. Anytime I rebuild or work on something I clean it up like new and relube everything.

I spend 1 hour last night clean up the old grease...is there a chemical that will do the job??? or dish washer will be fine??

Just use warm/hot water and dish soap. Dawn really is a great grease cutter, wether it be from food, RC's, or full scale cars! Plus it's gentle so their is zero chance of hurting any plastic parts.

I use namptha or motoe spray. Last time I used motor spray and it worked fine.

I soak my parts in diesel fuel for a while before I scub them with a toothbrush, then spray them down with Naphtha and take an air hose to them when I am done.

I think this is taking it too far, especially for an electric car. Usually a small hand towel and some motor spray will get the job done.
