Default stuck drive pins

im having difficulty in getting the drive pins (the ones that turn the hexes over) out of their socket, is there a special way of removing them or do you just hammer them out?
and they are they type where the wheel nut screws onto the hex itself

LOL.....I remember the first time I had to remove one of them. Thought it was a press fit and tapped it out with a hammer and small punch. Only when I went to put it back together did I notice the set-screw in the center of the hub.
