One cell, as in 3.7v? If so why?

Novak already has one. Basically this is a new type of 'stock' or 'power limited' racing, using 1s LiPos (no need to balance or anything like that) and typically with a step-up BEC that produces a steady 5V+ output for servos, receiver, etc. from a single LiPo cell. Or for crawling.

It doesn't look like the castle has a step-up BEC built in though.

I always thought that the one cell (or 4-cell NiMh) was used for indoor carpet racing with pan cars.

It is. It's a great way to run if your space is limited, and you still want to run 10th scale. It's also a popular pan oval class. They run 6 cell stock, or 4 cell 19T, or in this case a 1S lipo.

Single cell lipo is becoming popular with carpet racers. Either 10th or 12th sclae on road or oval. With the pan car being so light, 2 cell lipo even with a 17.5 was way to much power for racing. Some run 2 cell with a 21.5 motor but a lot of the carpet crowd are going to the single cell type of racing. You need to remember that a pan car does not have a gear box, it is direct drive, so it acts diffrently to an off road or touring car. I run a 10th scale pan car with a 13.5 motor and a single cell lipo on a carpet oval. Love the speed and close competition of carpet oval.

yes the 1/12 scale are faster than anything you have ever seen, and IMO they are the easiest to handle RC cars.

3.7V (4.2V fully charged ) is perfect for this size car especially that the motors used are 3000kv or more.

My 1/12 scale Associated 12R5 uses a 1S2P 6000mAh pack for power and that I custom built for my own use and a 7.4V 150mAh pack to power the RX directly , it's a Riot to drive. No BEC here, mainly becasue ther is little room, I run the 2S lipo directly into the RX.

Just Pre-ordered my new 1S Mamba Max Pro from a [link=http://rchobbyandtrack.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=28&products_id=449]local dealer[/link]
