Default 32 pitch vs 48?

I was wondering if It is ok to use a different pitched pinioin gear. If my mini dt is 48 pitch, can I stick a castle 32 pitch pinion on
I cant get the regular motor gears to stay on the shaft.. They keep loosening.
Has anyone used locktite? Or a specific pin that stays?
With size 1/10 vehic it seems easiers to keep them on since the motor screw that holds it is bigger
thanks</p>

no, they have to be matched in order to get proper gear mesh. Loctite will help the screw stay tight. A relief or step in the shaft will also help, a bigger screw may also help.

32 pitch = 32 teeth per inch
48 pitch = 48 teeth per inch
64 pitch = 64 teeth per inch

Both the pinion and spur gears need to be the same pitch. You can not mix them, it will damage one or both.
