Hot wires
Yesterday i took my slash out and ripped it around the yard. After 10 min the MMP Wires and lipo wires were both hot. Batt and ESC both were cool along with motor. What is making them hot??

RE: Hot wires
My lipo has 10g and the ESC has the stock 13g. Not sure i feel comfy changing my ESC wires out.
The thing is this hasnt happened before and I use these lipos all the time. Havent tried another lipo since I dont want to damage my mmp.

RE: Hot wires
were the wires sitting on the esc or motor for an extended period of time, 13 and 10 awg are plenty big enough do you have trx plugs, deans, bullet connectors, etc? if your plugs are too wimnpy it can heat up the wires from resistance

RE: Hot wires
The ESC is a MMP that comes stock with traxxas plugs and to keep it I just mad a connector to deans since all my batts are deans. I also charged the lipo and all is good so it's not my battery.
I dont believe they were sitting on anything hot since nothing else was hot but will have to make sure next time.

RE: Hot wires
what im trying to get at is, if you wires are too long (like the esc to motor wires should just reach with a little wiggle room) than you are creating resistance and that will creat heat.

RE: Hot wires
10AWG wire is less than 4ohms per kilometer, so a few extra inches aren't going to add an appreciable resistance. Unless of course the wires have gone bad. If moisture got in under the jacket and the wires have started to corrode, then there could be a resistance issue.

RE: Hot wires
yeh but not all his wires are 10 awg, only the ones from the pack. the rest are 13awg but from my experience 13 is plenty good enough for most 1/10th aplications (excluding setups that they can basicly reverse the earth's rotation like mmm in an evader)
i think its that the wire is too long and the adapter is not helping either. and the hot 13awg wire was passing that heat onto the 10 awg wire.
how was the wire when it was hot, did it feel more maleable when it was hot compared to normaly? if not i would not even worry about it. just keep an eye on it next time you run and after your done check the wire. also is your solder job good on the adapter? is there a clump of solder or is it a clean almost factory job?

OK. I'm not an expert with electrics.....however....how old is everything?? Batts, wires and esc's do wear out.......

RE: Hot wires
when electrical stuff gets hot ,it a classic indication of bad connection or not ample size wire
for the amperage that it is trying to carry!!!

RE: Hot wires
Everything is pretty much brand new and I never run in water. The lipo is a turnigy 2s 5000 that only has maybe 15 runs and they never get hot in any other car or truck I use them in. My connections seem fine but I'm no pro at soldering..lol
Maybe its my set up with the MMP, HV5.5 pulling to much to fast.

RE: Hot wires
I've noticed my 1/8th MM motor wires got pretty damn warm when I ran it in my savage. The battery wires stayed cool though, but I use 5200mah 30C which I think have thicker wires.
I would say it it probably the adapter. If I were you since all your batteries are deans I'd just replace the connector on the ESC with a deans and try that. I tried an adapter on one of my RC's when I 1st started getting traxxas connectors and noticed the wires got damn hot. And when I borrow a battery to my nephew I notice the wires get hot too with the adapter, where I own the same RC just with a different connector on my ESC, and they run cool for me.
