Battery Problems
 

I got a Dynamite Twin Peak charger that seems to charge my mini Revo batteries just fine. My aunt got me a new Venom 5000mAh 7 cell NiMH pack for my Stampede. I plugged it into my charger and it said that it had finished after only 15-20 minutes. I plugged it in and the power was unbelievable and then it the battery was extremely low. I looked on the back and it said for a 5000 mAh pack at 4 amps it should take 90 minutes to charge. What is up with my battery/charger? FYI I took the ESC off of LVD mode before I started driving it.

charger shut off too soon? Maybe it did what it was supposed to do.

No it was supposed to charge the battery. I don't know. Does it need like a break-in cycle?

Don't worry, charge the battery again and use it to break it in, new batteries always does that.

Let me re-phrase. The pack wasn't full , we know that. Chargers are designed to turn off when a voltage drop or other parameter is sensed , maybe a voltage drop or other parameter was sensed. I don't think it is the chargers fault and I don't think there's anything wrong with your charger or pack. The pack should really be charged slowly all way to full before use.

Ya I just read up that new NiMH's tend to false peak on their first couple of cycles.

yup
I've had NiMh batteries take a full charge 1st time, than others that took 10-12 uses to get the full charge starting pretty low, and incrementing slowly.

But he did say its a venom battery... good luck I've had venom's that would only get to around 60-70% capacity no matter what I tried. One of the many reasons I will not use any more of their products even if they were given to me for free.

How many cycles does this thing take until it has stopped false peaking?

Alright this is probably my 4th or 5th cycle and it has only improved a little. Anybody know?

Try charging your battery at a lower amperage. Try maybe 2 amps the first couple of times. The battery will last longer if you charge it at a lower rate. Hope this helps Steve

Well the Dynamite Twin Peak has an "auto selection" on the amperage. So if it's a 4-5 cell receiver pack, the charger charges at 1 amp. If it's a 6-7 cell battery, it automatically charges at 4 amps. I checked the voltage of the battery and it says it has peaked at 9.5 volts. But it still doesn't charge to full capacity. Is there a mAh limit to this charger?

I tried to re-peak it and now it's at 9.8 volts. But I still think it hasn't gotten there yet. Hasn't charged for 90 minutes.

Ive got a twin peak aswell. Did exactly the same on my batteries by not charging them fully, and then i found that the charger cuts out due to "overheating" inside, and it sensed "other perameters" as Guver said. So I took a old hairdrier, stripped it apart and removed the motor with the fan assembly and chuhed the rest. Took some deans plugs and soldered it up and connected it to a seperate battery and just let it run next to or blow into the vent of the charger. Now it work as its suppose to, just by being colled a bit.

low and slow, charge it overnight.... twice.

The charger automatically charges at 4 amps. Can't change it. My other two chargers are timed chargers and only charge NiCad batteries. Not NiMH.
