What remote do you guys Like???
 

I am mainly into Hleicopters lately. But I would like to get my car and boat back running. I gave my old remote to a kid with a car. So I now need a new one, and I am looking for any suggestions.

I'm quite happy with my various HPI RTR radios. I did buy a Futaba 2PL once, but was disspointed with the range.

The Futaba 3PM 2.4 GHz version is the one I'd like, and is strongly recommended by the 5B crowd:

The only thing I don't like is the internal Fail-Safe. You can set the radio to one of two modes depending on whether you use analog or digital servos. If you're using analog servos, the Fail-Safe has to be manually actuated each time you turn the radio on. With digital servos, the radio mode used automatically engages the Fail-Safe.

The radio also has ABS braking, which is sort of fun to play with if you're using it with on-road cars. Never tried with it Off-road.

That's kinda cryptic...
Buy cheap/basic get cheap/basic and you got what you paid for
Buy expensive/complicated get expensive/complicated and you got what you paid for.
Also, just because you pay less for something does not necessaraly make it of less quality than something that costs more.

I think what was being asked is do you want cheap/basic or do you want more expensive/fuller featured.

For me, the RTR radios have done fine for me as well. But I usually bash alone or with a friend or two so basic is all I need. If I were in the market for a radio then I'd take a look at what I need it for. To bash alone I'd be considering one of the most basic 2.4ghz radios. They can be found for $50 or less at several places. If I were to race or wanted/needed a lot of adjustability I'd be looking at something like the Futaba mentioned above.
You might also consider a used radio. There are lots of people who have to have the latest and greatest and will dump their perfectly good "old" stuff on places like e-bay.

Tactic works well for $70 or the lower end spektrum for $100.

wow I got like every radio they sell now :D
for basic settings the $20 are good
slightly more advanced settings with multi model the GT3b is decent
for more advanced settings the GT3 is best

How many channels do you need? 2, 3, 4, 8, 14?

There is no reason why you wouldn't be able to use your Heli radio for a ground vehicle.

Futaba 3PM is a really good radio. And if you have the money a Futaba 3PK.

There are no technical reasons. Depending on the radio he is using there very well may be legal reasons not too.

well i use an m8 converted to 2.4for my racers and nitro beaters but ive got one of those dinky tactic 2.4 radios and i think its my all time favorite. the thing has seen all kinds of hell and its so simple i can grab it from one car to another in a pinch, tweek a few dials and im good 2 go.

I've been a Futaba guy for a long time, tried a Spektrum, had issues, went back to Futaba.

I use the eurgle GT3 and have nothing bad to say about it.  Cheap at 60 bucks, and 10 bucks for an extra receiver...and has EPA, failsafe, and a bunch of other stuff I never use.  I run all 3 of my rc's off it.

never ran a 2.4 in a car/truck, i do have one for my helie and it works well

whatever you get, i would strongly suggest one with a LCD screen with EPA and reversing and memory modes. they are cheap nowadays and really help out with getting everything fine tuned.

I use an Airtronics M11 with a spetkrum 2.4 module and recievers. Lots of adjustments and 30 model memory.
A bit pricey but well worth it.

I use a Nomadio react right now, but I find it a bit weird ergonomically, so think I will be going with a Spektrum DX3R or maybe wait and see what Spektrum comes out with next. The reason I say specify Spektrum is just because I like my DX7 so much.

I use the Tower Hobbies 224 2.4 system, which seems to be the exact same thing as the Tactic 2.4 GHz. It's been good to me so far, no problems with it. It's nice not to have an antenna poking out of the car, and new receivers are only $22 a piece. I bash, so I don't need the more advanced features associated with higher-end systems.

I don't think this was covered earlier, but for most cars you need a 2-channel system. If you have a truck that has a reverse module or some third feature, you'll need a 3-channel to deal with that. I can't think of too many currently-sold cars with that, though.
