Diff fluids
 

the weights given r new to me i am a beginner to rc nitro and was wondering what if any r equivelent to 75 wt diff fluid or 80 wt what is 7000 3000 and 10000 i know they r diff fluids but what is comparable or not.also red greese are we taliking autom otive or rc speciffic .last question how do i tell if my shocks were filled at the factory or not .

I'm not sure if there's an equivalent to 80w or 90w automotive lubes. I'd imagine an all-steel RC diff could use them in a pinch if all you wanted was a near-locker. I can tell you that the bigger the number the thicker it is. 1000w is so thin that you might as well have an open, it would only be there to lubricate. 100,000w fluid would be so thick that the diff would behave as if it were a locker.

As for the grease...not sure TBH. Could be, I've seen people use it to seal unsealed RC diffs on here before.

As for the shocks, it's pretty simple. Drop the car from about three feet. If it bounces, they're not filled. If it doesn't, then they are.

I don't quite understand your question. What do you mean by equivalency? Shock fluid is anywhere from 10 weight to like 85 weight. Diff fluid is from 1000, to like 10,000.

just as it sounds, 1000 3000wt ect. are that weight- even automotive.

you will see if you open a diff up or buy the fluid, it is THICK, its amazing what kind of resistance it makes in the gears.

So bassicly u r sayin tha 1000 islike a 10w in oil or 7000 is 70 w in auto dif fluid thanks for the quick replys it was helpful. iknow that 70 wt diff oil automotive is thick so could u use them fluids in ur diff the automotive stuff that is also i was at my local recreation store and got some filter oil for foam filter and was lookin at foggers like after run oil i guess or is it compleatly different? . I use to do small engine repair and at the end of season we would fog the motors so they would not corode is this the same process and can i use this product they have them for carb and engine combination.thanks

What he's saying is that the weight measures the viscosity of the fluid. He's not saying that viscosity correlates with any automotive fluids.


As for after-run oil, I've never used a drop of the stuff in six years of running nitro and I've never had an engine gum up or rust. As long as you run it out of fuel at the end of your session you'll be fine. If you need to do this with a partial tank just pinch the fuel line going to the carb.

what i mean is to get the equivilant of 1000wt fluid, is you would have to find 1000wt auto fluid- which doesnt exist.
just buy the stuff at the hobby shop.

No... 10 weight is like 10 weight car oil. 10,000 weight is like honey. I would never use automotive oil in an rc car, rc car and real car oils are formulated differently, some types of oil may be bad for the bearing seals and plastic transmission case. The viscosity is the same, 70wt shock oil would be just as viscous as 70wt [car] diff oil. As for filter oil, I just get mine at a motorcycle shop, its like $5 for a ton. You run fogger though a mower engine while the engine is running, with an rc car engine you just put a few drops of after run in the carb (or head) and pull the motor over a few times. Rc car stuff is very specific, its best just to use the stuff meant for it.

the only automotive things i use in my rc is zoom sput oil on clean cv's and bearings (as its just parafin based and really good stuff for cheap) and Mobil-1 synthetic bearing grease- i use it in diffs (in the case not in the diff)but i aquired this to restore antique fans and on my 1/1 car. ($14 a tub is high)
