A great R/C loss?
I was setting at my computer last night posting on my fave R/C forum when I herd a loud “BOOM”. (It sounded like my landscaping neighbor had dropped some heavy equipment off of his trailer.) Suddenly I felt a great loss in the (R/C) FORCE, as if hundreds of happy voices had been suddenly silenced.
Twenty minutes later my wife got a text that there was a big rig explosion on the freeway on the overpass near my house. We went outside to see the fire, however by that time the fire was out, and all I could see was smoke that covered the horizon, with the reflection of red lights. This is what happened MORENO VALLEY: Fiery crash caused 6-hour freeway closure By PE News on January 26, 2011 7:44 AM Last night's fiery big-rig crash — and the resulting cleanup — in Moreno Valley closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 60 for more than six hours, forcing motorists to detour until 3:25 a.m. today, California Highway Patrol officers say. The wreck happened at 9:14 p.m. Tuesday near near Frederick Street when 59-year-old big-rig driver Martin Lopez of Van Nuys made an unsafe turn and crashed the 2002 Freightliner into the center divider, Officer Sylvia Vargas said in a written statement. Lopez was unhurt, but flames destroyed the cab and the truck's trailer, which was loaded with 6,000 pounds of radio-controlled toy cars, according to the statement. Debris initially closed even the westbound carpool and fast lanes, which were reopened at 11:18 p.m. But the eastbound closure persisted. "It's a tractor-trailer. They had to unload the debris (of the burned cargo). They're just a big mess," Officer Jaci Parent said from the Traffic Management Center in San Bernardino. "The cleanup takes awhile." — RICHARD BROOKS [email protected] This is indeed a sad day of mourning. |
RE: A great R/C loss?
yep, it was a trailer full of Redcat Racing models.
its not certain if the models were all lost. its possible many of them are fine. the new vid shows firemen hauling out what look like perfectly good boxes. but its possible there is much water damage. at least the driver wasnt hurt. the cab was burnt down to the frame! |

RE: A great R/C loss?
Actually, 6000 lbs is a very light load. I have 42,000+ of plastic pebbles on my trailer as I speak and am about to get unloaded. But the cars probably did take up a lot more space. Anyways luckily it wasn't more and nobody was injured.

I've got a friend that does the "storage wars" thing and he has recently set-up an online store and got like 2000 hits the first week with zero advertising. So, yeah, they'll show up somewhere... |

RE: A great R/C loss?
it depends. as of yet redcat doesnt know how much of the product was damaged or lost. in the news vid i saw it looked like most of it my be OK. but it will take time for redcat to sort it all out. not a good day for the guys at redcat!
if the whole lot is considered a "loss" and someone buys them from the insurance company they may end up on ebay. but if most were OK then redcat will take them im sure. what they will do with ones that may be damaged i dont know. they might take them apart to sell as spare parts? |

That's funny (not) we just had a pickup crash into a gas tanker truck in Merritt Island FL. Both drivers were killed and the resulting explosion and fire, which burned the overpass where the accident happend, have closed it for the next month or so. Traffic has been a nightmare for us driving to work at KSC and CCAFS since the wreck. Here's a link concerning the accident (latest report indicates that it was 8k gallons of fuel involved). No RC involved, but bummer nonetheless.

Working the 84 Olympics was a blast (golf course is pretty awesome too). I still think southern Cal has the best weather in the country (by far). |
