HELP: How to adjust timing on motor

I have a Speed Gems Pro 15t Titanite in my Pede. I want to know what it means to "adjust the timing" on the motor and how it will effect the overall performance of my truck. Will it make it go significantly faster? I know it will probably wear the motor out quicker, but I'm still curious as to whether it would be beneficial to play around with the timing.

Also, how do I actually adjust the timing? I see the screw I need to loosen, do I turn the can clockwise or counter clockwise or something??

Any help is appreciated, I'm a noob.

The timing marks are on the can and endbell. Clockwise is advancing, counterclockwise is retarding. Each mark is 1 degree if ThunderbirdJunkie recalls correctly.

I've been reading that advancing the timing 10-12 degrees will increase the performance while not wearing on the motor too much. I think I'll try it.
