RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
ORIGINAL: HerrSavage :eek: There were plenty of guys over a long of period of time complaining of their Savage XL transmissions blowing up with even stock Piccos.. Maybe the diffs themselves have improved, but overall the Savage drivetrain is still questionable.. That of the Losi MT's is frankly not. And yes that is fairly objective, having spent enough time on both Savage and Losi forums for the last 5+ years. You just don't see people having issues with stock LST's like you do with Savages... I think a Savage X 4.6 is a great RC to get started. And I'll even allow that quality may have improved since I had mine.. But put in bigger, more powerful engines, and I'm not so sure.. And that's just keeping things to quality. Not to even start in on handling, etc.. But this Savage vs. Losi talk is beside the point, so leave it... In any case, I don't have a Flux, and again, don't bother reading about them. But I seriously doubt a Flux even on 4S is going to be less maintanance than an X4.6.. And it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were more. Just making sure, as you suggested, there isn't any misinformation here. |
RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
I am definately gettiing a nitro mt Guys so which do you prefer for insane jumps and bashing and speed. Mgt8.0 - savage x /xl - lst2 btw it must be teally tough! Btw i have 600$ to spend max
|
RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
Pick whichever one has the best local parts support. They're all, for your purposes, equally tough. For me that would be the Savage, with the MGT a close second and the LST2 a veeeeeeery distant third on account of nobody in my area selling parts for Losi cars.

RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
I'd go for the Savage too. Either the X or the XL, both are great trucks.

RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
I have all 3, the Savage, MGT, and LST2. The Savage is the most durable in MY opinion. Mine has been nothing short of great. The MGT is the easiest to work on, but it has some weak spots compared to the savage. The LST2 (XXL is your option now) is a pretty strong truck, and handles very good. My favorite engine of the bunch though is the MGT 8.0. That thing is a beast. My father in law has one and it runs awesome, lots of power, more RPM than i expected. The torque that thing has is crazy. As someone mentioned though, its something of a fuel hog. Just look at the 3 and pick the one you like the looks of / reviews on the best.
Keep in mind though, if you get a losi XXL, you WILL need to upgrade the engine brace before you do any jumping. I found that out the hard way. Its about $20 and you'll have to do a little dissasembly to install it. |
RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
I checked the prices and mgt is the cheapest<div>Then savage xl then the losi xxl im fr turkey and those</div><div>Cars are soooo expensive here so im goingto order them online like i did to my e revo vxl ill also order the pieces</div><div>From internet too so i guess i will be getting mgt8.0 what are the weak spots of mgt ? </div>

RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
I've heard the body mounts are made of butter, but given how much brute force that thing has I'm not surprized. Also, be careful with reverse. Make damn sure it isn't moving or trying to move before shifting gears, that engine has ample torque to completely annihilate the gearbox if you mis-shift it.
The MGT will come with just about everything you need to fire it up except batteries and fuel. These things I suggest you obtain locally. Here's the list of what it requires according to Tower Hobbies: REQUIRES: Radio Batteries: 12 AA size Glow Starter Battery: 1 D size 6-cell stick pack and charger for the pro start system Misc. Items: Building and track equipment Fuel: 2-cycle glow fuel with 15%-30% nitromethane, 14% lubricant |
RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
Ok i was also going to order it from tower hobbies i will also buy the batt for pro start system and 6 cell stick pac charger or whatever ill get batt for reciever here :)

RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
The starter battery doesn't need to be anything fancy but I would suggest one with a good amount of mAh. It will take some power to crank that huge engine over, 'specially when it's still new, and the more mAh you have the less you'll need to recharge the starter battery.

RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
I have some 2s 2200 mah lipo batt will they do the job?
|
RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
They'd work just fine if they'll fit in the starter. The only thing inside that is a switch and an electric motor, so there's nothing to cook with the higher voltage.
|
RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
Then now all i need is fuel and batteries for controller right ?
|
RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
Mhm. Fuel, AAs for the controller, AAs for the receiver, and one D-cell for the included glow starter. I run Blue Thunder Sport 20% myself and love it. It may tint the inside of the motor blue but it hasn't done any of my engines wrong.

RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
Fuel you're going to have to get locally, and you'll be dependent on what's available at the hobby shop. I would recommend %25 nitro.. Here in Germany they don't do much with %20.. It's either like %16-17, 25, or 30.. %25 is the best I think for power, without having to mess with head shims or whatever for %30...
Here the main brands are Sidewinder, Tornado, Jet, LRP, RB, maybe some Byrons Gen 2... All of them are fine, except Jet, which is awful.. Just go see what's available.. |

RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
Before I got into planes a couple of years ago I raced nitro. I got away from the r/c car becaue the parts start racking up on you checking account, but If I were to do it all over again i would go nitro. I had a couple of electric and yes they are a little cleaner and depending on how you set them up you can make them go super fast, but the same goes with nitro. Nitro takes a little more effort ie. tuning the engine and a little more mastery on the throttle I think. Electrics are super responsive on the throttle which is nice, but nitro really has a lot of punch. As far as tuning the engine goes it's really fun to tune your engine to the point that you are getting the holeshot right off the bat. That takes a lot of practice and time to get to that point, but nothing beats that feeling of "I just kicked your ass off the holeshot" with electrics it's just not the same. Not to mention the sound of a nitro. Another reason I like nitro(even nitro plans) is the convenience of when you run out of juice you just fuel it back up. No messing with batteries really except for your radio gear which really take a whle to run down. With electrics you can only afford so many batteries and chargers to keep you going. All that being said my advice to you is try nitro. I know that sounds a little biased, but it really is a riot. After a day at the track your truck or buggy will be just filthy. It's pretty awsome.</p> |
