Servos

I was extremely pleased at the difference just changing the batteries on my OFNA Hyper 7 made, and consequently have started to learn what I canabout servos (as this was one of the top three "perfect" parts desired for an average vehicle).

My questions about servos:
1. Does anyone know the specs for the Hobao H-10? I read they are rebadged Futaba S3003's. I've looked around for the specs but can't find them.
2. Do you recommend more torque or speed on a "light basher" vs a "heavy basher"?
3. What do you feel gives you more bang for the buck? .07 speed or 450 oz in torque in non-race conditions (i.e. every day running)?
4. What are some minimal values I should stick to? i.e. Speed =< .15 and torque=> .210 oz-.in

Thanks!

Are you sure about that Hobao servo number? I believethe proper number is Hobao H-101

The Futaba S3003 is totally too weak.

Speed for throttle
Torque for steering

I wouldn't be too concerned with servo speed. This Hitec servo would be the minimum that I would use for steering. It is digital and the price isn't too bad.

I personally like the Hitec 645 MG in my Jammin x1x CR (1/8th scale buggy) for steering. Find it holds up well as I've not had an issues with tie. I also use them in my truggies too which were decimated steering servos.

RE: Servos

always go higher torque with 1/8, however you can get away with a very mild throttle servo torque.

i always go metal gear or "karbonite"?? krypon? k...zibo...a... uuuuh... something stupid like that (its a type of composite) and try to go digital on the throttle, go for more torque on steering servo, a slow strong servo will alway win over a weak fast servo on thee rigs.

i have a high speed, high torque, digital, coreless servo on my t-maxx steering, its AMAZING however its generic and always out of stock.

RE: Servos

I don't worry too much a bout the speed of a servo for streering it is al just personal prefference. you may like something faster than I do for steering. For me anyting fastert than .12 sec is too fast and steering can feel twitchy. I like a servo around the .15 sec range. Torque which what you should be more focused on. for steering in a buggy basher I'd say 150oz or higher whatever you can afford but 150oz should be the minimum. You may want to look at higher speed servo for throttle as it will give you fast throttle response. For the throttle servo you want at least 100oz since you will be using it for you breaks as well. Whatever you get make sure it is metal geared.

BTW: I have a Hitec 5645 in my 8ight-E 2.0 buggy. It has 165oz of torque and .18 sec. and I am very happy with it so far.

Thanks, guys - this helps a lot.

Nitroexpress: you are correct, the stock part is H-101 (I was a little tired when I posted). ;-) Also, thanks for that link to R Garage, I LOVED what he did with his Hyper 7 ("Project HyperFresh")

RE: Servos

I decided to get a digital servo with higher than average torque, and average speed. Looking for something under $50.

I'm going to replace the Hobao 100-100 (Futaba S3003) steering servo with whatever new one I get.

Then, I'm going to put the Hobao 100-100 (which has worked fine, by the way) on the 1/10 Exceed Forza. I've got this thing stripped, it's literally a bare chassis as I'm rebuilding seven different parts on it - so this is the time to fabricate the Hobao server on it.

I'm about to purchase one of the following for my OFNA Hyper 7 (to use as steering servo):
Hitec HS-5645MG
Spektrum S6020
Airtronics 94851

Can anyone verify the Spektrum or Airtronics will fit (additionally, any feedback on these two is duly appreciated).

Thanks!

i run two of those in my OFNA 9.5 MBX pro, great servos, not super duper fast, but quick, very strong and very very percise for a MG servo. have yet to loose one going on 4 years.

They are all considered to be standard sized servos. here are the manufactures specs so you can see how close they are to the same size. Any f the would fit without any issue.

Futaba S3003 (since it is what you already have)
Dimensions: 1.6 x 0.8 x 1.4" (40 x 20 x 36mm)

Specktrum 6020
Dimensions (WxLxH): .8 x 1.6 x 1.5 inch (41 x 20 x 39mm)

Airtronics 94851
Dimension (mm): 1.57x0.77x1.49" (40x19.5x37.8mm)

Hitec 5645MG
Length: 40.6mm (1.59")
Width: 19.8mm (0.77")
Height: 37.8mm (1.48")

RE: Servos

Thanks, all. I've placed an order with A Main Hobbies (whom I HIGHLY recommend, BTW) for....The Airtronics 94851

I'm going to use this as the steering servo our Hyper 7. Then I will use the stock Hobao servo on my Exceed Forza. Upgrades all-the-way around...except I'm still benched due to my Losi 810 throttle servo. Seems my son is getting the better end of all of this. As long as he lets me bash his Hyper 7, I'm fine. DANG I love that car.

RE: Servos

if you get your hands on one cheap, look for a torsen center diff, makes a huge difference in power transfer, just sayin if your going to upgrade and such, not really a nessiary part to change out but does make it a different animal.

i got mine for $40 bones.
