Simple LiPo Question

Im not sure f the charge on my lipos right now, and they have been sitting for about 3 weeks now. isnt there a certain voltage they should be stored at or whats the rule? i have the onyx 235 charger and i dont think it has the discharge feature so i cant drain them if needed.</p>

RE: Simple LiPo Question

They can be stored at around 3.7-3.9 volts/cell. I like 3.75

I am pretty sure there is a storage function on your charger that balance the battery and leave them at about 3,7 volt pr cell. Most chargers have this function, even the most basic ones :)

Dude has an Onyx 235, I had a 230. I don't think either has a storage function (the 230 definitely did not). And neither has a discharge function. That's why they are inexpensive LiPo chargers. Heck, mine didn't even have a balancer (the 235 does).

So, I don't think it's that easy for him to just push "storage" on an onyx 235, unfortunately.

My Dynamite Passport Lipo doesn't have a storage function either. But you can just charge them to full capacity then run them untill you get to 3.8v or what ever storage charge you want them at. Thats what I would do.

well the thing is, as of right now i have no clue what the voltage is at. and i cant run them down cause my flux isnt runnin due to the esc failure.

RE: Simple LiPo Question

I know no one wants to hear "spend more money", but I found this little item to be very handy in checking LiPo battery capacities and voltage on the fly:
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...attery-Checker

It's $32, and well worth it to me.

Eventually, getting a charger with the storage feature should probably be on your radar (for long spans w/out running - months, and such). But the $32 item above at least is something to get by with in the meantime, even when you just run your RCs a bit to get the battery down enough for storage.

there is like a $7 voltage checker that does that that I've seen on ebay a few times.
or can even get a cheap multimeter and do the same
I got my current multimeter for $10-15 like 8-9 years ago, works just as good as the $80 one I had that stopped working after 1 year of use.

RE: Simple LiPo Question

That's cool. Does it give you battery capacity remaining as well as voltage?

well if you do simple math like whatever voltage it says - 3.4(or whatever you like to stop at) = remaining voltage so you an guesstimate it.

RE: Simple LiPo Question

Not sure I follow. You use the voltage readout from a multimeter to determine the battery capacity left?

I find it handy when I just want to check which of my 2s packs is charged more, so I run with that one for example. Or after I messed with the CR-01 today, I checked to see how much capacity it ate up, out of curiosity.

Don't get me wrong, and in expensive multimeter is a great idea! I just don't know what the cheap ones can/can't do. By no means is my $30 suggestion THE BEST, but it sure is a nifty little gadget. :D

Yea i dont have plans, nor is it in my budget at the moment to get a lipo volt meter. is that really the only way?

RE: Simple LiPo Question

Istore my lipos at 3.7 volts per cell. Iuse aCompetition Electronics Turbo 35 BL and just need to set the max charge voltage to 7.4 for 2s and hit start or the cutoff voltage and discharge down to the desired level.
Shuts off at the preset voltage.
