Electronics Compatibility Question
 

Soo... I have a few cars in need of various electronics, and want to ask a few questions as to what will work with what.

Note that all of the HobbyKing are because of my budget. I'd like to finally get all my cars working, the cheaper the better.

First off, radios. I'm going to have 8 cars pretty soon, and only 3 radios. 2 AM/FM, and one Losi 2.4.
After trying the Losi, 2.4 is certainly the way to go. But If I'm going to sync the rest of my cars to one radio, I think I'd rather go with something with cheap recievers, 3 Channels+, and telemetry. I've been leaning towards this radio from HobbyKing:

It has a good design and everything I listed for a decent price. I also looked at other HobbyKing radios and R2Hobbie's Eurgle System, and this is my favorite of the bunch. Is there anything I should be aware of about it?

Next thing, non electronic.. a body reamer:

I've never used one, but some of HobbyKing's other ones looked okay too. Any reason to choose one over the other? How big are most bodyposts?

Brushless setups. I have a Novak 7.5t motor and no ESC. I need a brushless system for a TC5 and a Kyosho DRX. These are the ESC and ESC/Motor combos I am looking at:

Will that ESC be sufficient for a 7.5t motor? And which ESC/Motor should go in each car? The TC5 might end up as a drifter. I will be using a 7.2 volt NiMh pack in both of these cars until I switch to LiPo.

Last, LiPo chargers. I might trade a crawler for a TC5r roller and a brushless 18r with LiPos. I don't know specifically what LiPos they are. Will they work with this charger?

I won't be purchasing any parts for these cars until I own them by the way.

If you recommend a more expensive product, please keep it within a similar price range.

http://www.hobbypartz.com/79p-gt3b-carradio-lcd.html probably is same thing just a boxier design, in stock, and ships from the USA(the HK one is from china like all their new things for a few months).
saying probably cause I know the old HK radios ARE Flyskys, and use the same exact receiver just not sure about the particular one you linked. But based on looks, and features I'd say its the same exact thing.


As for the ESC beats me it depends on what the max current draw is of the motor, as turns are pretty arbitrary from what I seen from various manufacturers. But personally I'd go HW off hobbypartz's site (if they are in stock) as I've read some iffy things on the HK ESC's but not the HW ones. Only things I've seen really on HW were from people running 35A ones in 8lb MT's on 3S, and wondering why it fried.

Charger no way in hell would I recommend or even use that if you gave it to me for free. Actually come to think of it I threw a charger out that came with a RC helicopter that looked JUST like that one. Just get a decent charger that has a display you do not want to go cheap when it comes to your safety. (this is coming from someone that likes to go as cheap as possible)

I'll go with a Flysky then.. I had an idea of that, but wanted to condense my order. That's cheaper though.
HobbyWing seems more expensive.. I'll check it out though.

But if you don't have a 12V power supply that can supply the current needed, and don't feel like making one I'd go with the 1st one I listed
Now if you plan on getting a 2nd charger its cheaper to go with the HW and convert a server power supply cause in the end it would be 60 for 2 vs 80 for 2.

As for that motor beats me I can't find any specs on it. Why can't companies just put the damn ratings on their sites, and not require some pagan ritual that involves slathering goats to get the specs(Castle is VERY guilty of this).

Any vague ideas as to a ESC equivalent to a Novak GTB?That's what I was running the 7.5t on.

I believe there's a FlySky GT3C out now. Although HobbyPartz doesn't have it yet.

Check it out at hobbyhot.com I still never did pick up a gt3b even though I keep meaning to, but now I'll get the C instead.

Hobbyhot has all kinds of stuff that hobbypartz doesn't have and the prices are about 15% cheaper too.

wow they are cheap on certain things like the original GT3 (which I thought was beter than the GT3b personally) is $28 there vs HP's $60
the 3b they are the same on though but HP I think you get free shipping on it so they are prolly cheaper in the end.

I find just slapping a cheap sky lipo 3S in the GT3(specially off hobbyhots site) or 3b is cheaper than the model that has the rechargeable batteries. Hell it was cheaper than a set of energizer's better batteries for it lol

looking at other things their HW line up I dunno they show the 35A combo setup in the picture but say its the 60A, but have the 380 35A motor specs listed too. I dunno if they got the specs on their stuff right. The prices are on par with HP though so no real saving on that.

I was wondering if HobbyPartz ships out of the USA. I know HobbyHot does not, so I feared I'd get killed on shipping with HobbyHot. I guess I'd have to put items in the cart to find out. Was kind of hoping HP would stock the GT3C soon, I'm itching to get one and finally get over to 2.4 GHz.

I'm not entirely sure what telemetry is, I just want a radio with a screen preferably for editing more detailed trim and such.

Hobbyhot seems good. I'm trying to condense my spread into one site if possible, and that may work..

What is the difference between the GT3/2/a/b/c?

With telemetry, you can install sensors on the model and then information like RPM, speed , temperature and voltage are displayed on the radios screen.

Ohhhhh... don't need telemetry then, although my 7.5t motor is sensored I believe. (Relevant?)

As I'm mulling over a FlySky radio myself, I've observed this so far:

1) Not many places sell the 3C yet. Not sure why.

2) I've read on another site that the 3C had (has?) some issues, firmware flashes needed, stuff like that. Now, this could just be a few individuals griping, or it could be a real problem. I just don't know, since it's just based on what I've read on the internet (you know how that goes). I won't link to anything, but will let the reader do the research.

3) You can get the 3B at HobbyPartz, and a few other things to total $50 (extra Rx!), and get free shipping for $50 orders. That's fantastic.


So I dunno man, do a little reading on the 3C. I'm just starting to myself, so can't offer much more info. But for me personally, I am starting to lean back to the tried and true 3B - but then, I'm not trying to combine orders on one site, etc, like you are.

prolly be safer with the 60A
45 is a tad small, especially not knowing the novaks specs. don't think many 1/0th motors go over 60A's
