Maybe it's because the average age bracket around here seems to be a bit higher than that of places like memebase and the like?

Personally, I can't stand them. They also don't adhere to the definition of a 'meme'. Just because something uses the dumb ****ing rage format, or has a text overlay, does not make it a meme. A meme is an inside internet joke or reference that large numbers of people recognize and propagate.

there is some very strange things out there....

Sorry that it doesn't fit your description of a "meme". What do you think we should call them then? At the end of the day it's just something for a bit of fun and to have a laugh, if you can't have a laugh about it or if seeing others enjoying it pisses you off then you have got to be a pretty sad person. FYI it is an inside joke it you ask me, if you're not into RC you probably won't get them so there's that, also I made the "funny text pictures" in the last thread with a "meme" generator, so you're telling me that what I generated was not a meme?
