shock guards
Hey guys, Happy New Year!
Iwas just reading PHMAXIMUS' thread about his shocks, but got me to wondering about shock guards. he got the RPM shock guards that look like they'd keep sand and rocks from hitting the shaft.....but only on one side. I've been using Bad Horsie shock socks, but they don't seem to really keep the shafts clean. I've seen some cars have rubber boots covering the shaft, inside of the coil-over spring. THAT looks like it'd work the best. Does anyone have them on their car, and, how do they work afa keeping the shock shafts dirt-free? Has anyone ever made their own? And for those who do have the rubber boot shocks, how do they attach? Are the shock bodies designed with a special something to allow for boots? |
RE: shock guards
I have shock boots on a Hyper7 similar to these- http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/10452/ ....I do not run in really dirty conditions but I will say that they will never let dirt into the shaft area.

RE: shock guards
I think they are a good idea, the reson im going with the shock guards on my slash is because its cheaper for me. I need the spring retainers and ball ends. The RPM guards come with both and are cheaper than the traxxas ones.
The idea of the shock guards is only to stop small rocks from hitting the spring or shock shaft and pitting them or sandblasting them. Ive had great suscess with the shock boots, they work really well but are bad for soaking up nitro fuel and lastly the rubber boots, ive never had to much luck with them, I think its to hot where I live, my losi ones crack really easy, and all the boots on my revo didnt last long, same with some drive shaft boots on a SCX10 I dont reccomend the rubber boots, but i might need to try them out some more |
RE: shock guards
Additionally, the RPM guards just add a visual detail to your vehicle that makes it look a little different.

RE: shock guards
I use rubber gloves fingers to cover the springs and it works great.

RE: shock guards
Wouldent that trap air and effect the dampening?
