ESC linear BEC

A bit of a noob question, but I thought I would confirm this before going forward.
My brush less ESC lists that it can take a lipo 2s or 3s and has a linear BEC of 5v.
Being that I am using an old radio which was never designed for higher voltage, I want to confirm that this BEC means that regardless of a lipo 2 or 3, my radio will only see 5v?

Yep that's correct.

funny thing is it seems a good chunk of the older radios had BEC's built into the receiver its the new ones that fry when voltage is higher a they stopped that practice

Thanks for the info.
The radio is an AM radio, so it may be old enough, but I don't want to risk popping it.

if it glitches or acts up get http://www.valuehobby.com/radio-syst...lysky-gt2.html (only linked em as they have it in stock, I usually recommend hobbypartz.com but their stock is terrible)
Would be a GREAT upgrade ;)

I think the radio is next on the list. I have noticed the reception has been going downhill. I suspect the antenna on the car is damaged, so I'll be looking to spec the antenna and try to replace/ repair before replacing. I kind of like having a fast vintage.

or the crystals as those go bad

Only is a bit strong!
The ESC BEC will normally put out 5v +/- something.
If the battery voltage is too low, or the loading on the BEC too high, you will not get 5V.

That could be possible. Could having the radio mounted beside a brush less ESC have any impact? I can't say that I remember having any real issues until I switched to a brushless ESC and motor.
I will try another crystal set and see if that helps.

SyCo_VeNoM 11-15-2013 02:50 PM

yes the BL esc can impact an AM radio.

side note the crystal sets(last I looked) are almost half the price of that radio ;)

OK. I will try to move the radio as far as possible from the ESC.
As for the crystals, I have 3 or 4 sets. My cousin use to race these cars back in the 80's. Will move the radio and try the crystals second

Does the ESC wires have a ferrite ring? If not one might help?

It doesn't have a ring. Will need to look into one.
I did move the radio away from the ESC and it helped a bit. Had a bit of slippage so I didn't get to test it too much. It did get more range however then it did this morning
