Rear wheel problem
So I had been waiting over a month for some parts finally got my last package today. Put all my new stuff on got it running great but all the sudden only my front wheels are spinning when I hit the throttle. Is that my rear differential going out or is something loose in there or what? Any help would be appreciated

It would help to know what you were working on. The best question to ask when trying to figure out a mechanical problem is, what changed since the last time it ran right.

Not enough info yet. What model do you have? I'm assuming it's something 4wd. Sounds like a binding issue somewhere.

Sorry guys it's a volcano s30. There might be a redcat forum I was just frustrated and in a hurry to find something out. Nothing had really changed "I don't think" this is my first nitro car so pretty new to all this. But I had put couple new parts on since last time I drove it put new dog bones and axle stubs only on the front end took it outside had it running good all wheels were turning I had did couple donuts in grass then got back on the street an it was just peeling out with the front tires. My rear tires spin freely like a two wheel drive would I think but it'd just not hooking up with the gear in the differential I think. That's the best way to describe it. Sorry if I got u confused about anything I'm just kinda learning about these things and its a new kinda learning curve for me. Thanks for the replies

Check the drive shaft "dog bones" my bet is one of the 3 is out of place or missing. You will have one going into the front of the diff, and one to each of the rear wheels. If any arent in the cups you wont have any rear drive.

other thing is if you spin one of the rear tires does the other one spin in the opposite direction?
If yes(and all the driveshafts are connected) then the issue is probably either the bevel gear in the diff, or the crown gear.(or depending on how the gears are connected a clip, or grub screw might have came off) If no and they both spin the same direction then the diff is locked In no and the other doesn't spin at all then you have to take the diff apart as the spider gears might be trashed. (or depending on how the output cups are connected a clip, or grub screw might have came off) |
I'll look at more details when I get home from work today but yes when I spin one side of the tires the other side does spin if I go really slow with it and theydo spin in opposite directions but I have to really go slow with it for it to even attempt to turn both wheels

Ok I was wrong they are spinning in the same direction what does this mean?
|
hmm might be an issue in the diff either a gear broke, and it jammed internally, or something. Could try taking it apart to see whats up in it.

okay guys I got it figured out thanks for all the info what had happened was the dog bone in the rear that goes to the differential the coupling came loose cuz the grub screw wasn't tight I tried tightening it but the screw head was stripped out so what I did was cut a piece of fuel line and stuck it down inside the coupling and put it back together seems to be holding well and back wheels are spinning as they should now

Hello, I'm having this issue with my Volcano S30 rear diff. It's fairly new but I noticed a skipping sound in it so I took it apart and realized it wasn't making good contact between the crown and spur gear so I shimmed them closer together with washers behind them. They make great contact and no skipping or binding when its in my hand but, as soon as I put it together and run it I don't get rear wheel spin on acceleration. I checked all the grub crews on the drive cups. I don't know what to do now. Does someone make better quality gears for this?
