Do you know the componets in this set?

Hi all, while looking for a car for my 6y/o I got the bug and started looking for a car for myself. All the different variations and chassis.. pretty confusing.
I`ve never done on road racing, and saw some cars in action recently and new I`d get into that. I had set my eyes on tt-02 chassis kit.
but after reading around I went up to a tb-04, with the idea to upgrade as I go.
While searching I came across this brushless set. But I dont know the componets and just want to know if anyone here knows them.
is this a good set or should I go basic and upgrade?

http://item.rakuten.co.jp/rc-yumekuukan/58595-24bl/

comes to about $350 us dollars. I dont mind spending that if its good.
There is also a basic kit, standard transmitter, motor etc. If I got that and upgraded to brushless,
I would have to upgrade to a better transmitter with a larger amp yeah? is that how it works?
Whats not included in this set that would better of having.
Some other Tb-04 brushed moter sets that are cheaper.

http://item.rakuten.co.jp/rc-yumekuukan/58598-m/

http://item.rakuten.co.jp/rc-yumekuukan/58595-f/

or there is this super set, but this is a bit over my price range.

http://item.rakuten.co.jp/rc-yumekuukan/58595-s/

unfortunately there is no real description of the componets.

Question for my boys car.
He was driving one of those Tamiya wheelie models. The guy at the event said they could adjust the speed for younger kids or bigger kids. is that an easy thing to do? I was thinking of getting him this car.
http://item.rakuten.co.jp/rc-yumekuukan/687846/
or a hornet or a frog. which there is only $20 or $30 difference. But I think they would be too fast for him. Mind you there is nothing for him to crash into
where he will be driving, open sanddune. but the price is good and if I can limit the speed that would be super.
Sorry for the long post. I`m in the boon docks with no RC shops around.
Plnning a day trip to Osaka next week if I can.
Thanks.

I can't comment on the package you posted as it's all in Chinese/Japanese (I don't know the difference, lol). But from what I've learned after getting back into the hobby after a 25yr hiatus is that you will ultimately want to upgrade pretty much everything. So, if it's a choice between an upgraded car and a budget one that you will probably upgrade then go for the already upgraded one. At least that's my philosophy, lol.

Now to your son's car.......I was about 13yrs old when I got my first RC car for Christmas and it was the original Blackfoot. At 6yrs old I don't think the Grasshopper would be too fast for him, BUT you're looking at about $150-200 for a complete package to get him running (remote, battery, and charger). With that said, I bought both of my sons (9 and 7yrs old) each an Exceed Sunfire with brushed motors. My 9yr old can control his pretty well but my 7yr old has issues at times unless we're in a wide open area. I paid $135/ea for them from www.nitrorcx.com. I didn't want to spend alot of money on them just in case they didn't have the passion and fun I have with mine. The only thing I've purchased as an upgrade for them (and me) is a better charger, which was the Thunder AC6.

They come RTR (ready to run) with a 2.4ghz remote, 1800mah NiMh battery and wall charger. For the price they're pretty well built. The only thing I've had to repair on either buggy is the shock tower and shock shaft on my 9yr olds when he ran it into a mailbox post.

Thanks for your reply,

The site is all in Japanese, but it doesnt say anything about the bits in it. I was hoping I could get some feedback from members just from the pictures.
I`m gonna print off that page and ask around at a race meet on sunday, and try to get to know some local racers. I too would prefer the upgraded, but just want to know
it`s not filled out with rubbish. Looks good though.

As for the grasshopper its a complete package. worksout at just over a $100 us. will need a quicker charger and extra battery.
Thanks for the link to nitrorcx. I`m basically going to stick with Tamiya, being in Japan the parts are easier to obtain and cheaper
than imported gear.

cheers.

Grasshopper/hornet is a ok starter vehicle, but in comparison to any of the modern RC's its ancient. In terms of vehicles it would be not far off of say a 57 chevy vs a WRX in performance difference. While the old stuff is fun to drive it just doesn't hold anything to the modern stuff for performance, and ease of use.

If you want something a bit better look at the DF-02 it needs a few minor modifications(one involves a hammer, drill, and a piece of piano wire) to be durable, but even stock it smokes the grasshopper/hornet, and is about 4k more http://item.rakuten.co.jp/jism/49503...27-52-15042-n/

I don't understand why I see different prices for the same parts on that site though. I will admit I can't read the descriptions, but they should be the same thing as part numbers are the same.

Thanks for the link, looks cool. and it stands to reason that a modern car would be that much better.
You think thats ok for a 6 y/o? its not a lot more$$. I guess he`ll get used to it pretty quick.

That site is made up of many different shops that charge what they like. I can`t understand it either,
who wouldn`t buy from the cheap guy. the one you linked is cheap and reputable. cheers

Chances are the brushed versions have the silver can motor, I cant imagine whatever brushless setup tamiya is putting in would be complete trash. But I'd hold out for a website that I can read just to be safe.

I agree that your 6 year old would be able to handle a stock hornet or grasshopper. And you can speed those up with brushless later if desired.

Another thing to think of is batteries. Those appear to come with nimh batteries which is old tech at this point. If you buy the 'not ready to roll' package and get your own lipo batteries and charger you'll be better off.

SyCo_VeNoM 06-13-2015 09:30 AM

as for the DF-02 yea a 6yo could handle it I let my nephew drive mine a few times when he was 5. It is brushed so it goes maybe 19-24kph so its not very fast... but can be made to go over triple that speed as the one I use has been shown(note the one I use has a lot of upgrades done that cost more then the RC's kit did ;))

As for the one mod I would do out of the box here are instructions http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-e...m-chassis.html
It took me maybe 10 minutes to do 3 DF-02s (I own 2, and my older nephew has one)
I will say without that modification the thing does have a tendency to rip like the 1st pic in the thread shows why Tamiya didn't do such a simple fix, or even sell it as an option is beyond me.
My nephews bone stock XB DF-02 hasn't broken a chassis since I did the mod 4 or so years ago

I went to a local race on the weekend, got to see different car chassis etc. They even gave me adrive of the tb-4.
that just made me want to get an rc car even more. They showed me the inner workings of the tb-04 and tt-02
and recommended a tt-02 type s. less maintence easier to build etc. I agree.
I had a great time driving the car and was pretty happy with my ability although I havn`t used one in about 25 years.
It was my first time to use a trigger transmitter. Only ever used a stick before.

They only have on road racing where I live. But the y do race big trye cars. (wheelies) So I think that will be a
better choice for my boy. I can race it, as can he when he gets better. Apparently they have all sorts of events in this class which is basically
justt for fun. crash and your out type things.

@syco_venom Thanks for your post and link for the df-02 mod.
If we end up with one, I`ll follow your advice.

Thanks everyone for your for your posts. If I have anymore questions
I`ll post in the near future. I have the regulations for the touring car class now. So just have to research
what I need and where I can get it.
