Need some help picking another RC.
 

Hi guys. First time posting here but not new to the hobby. Like the title says, I am in the market for another rc. I currently own the v1 and v2 x-maxx. And the 2wd slash and slash 4x4. I dont race very often and when I do, it's just with friends for fun. So not looking for a dedicated racer. I want something fast on road as well as off road. I converted both my slash's with big tires to get the traction I wanted for bashing, but ended up having to gear way down because of heat. I have pretty much settled on the Rustler VXL. I like its quickness and ability to be on or off road with a simple tire change. But I was wanting to know if there was something else from another brand, that is similar to the rustler but maybe better, or bigger. I have searched and searched every night for over a week trying to decide. Lhs isn't any help as they only carry traxxas products. So what do you guys think? Thanks.

TBO the rustler is not the best basher... Its from a time when stadium trucks were popular and people loved the idea of 2wd racing... Its predecessors were very competitive back in the day, but with all the changes to the rc world they are really lacking... Honestly it will be marginally better than ur 2wd slash on a track but worse when bashing.

I honestly think u would have more luck with the slash 4x4 .... Chuck some 1/8 buggy wheels, body and wing on it... LCG chassis and a Better ESC :)

or..... u could do what I did... build 1/2 rustler / slash?

The problem being I had to gear the slash down. And even when I gear it up.....I can't drive it above 35 mph before it flips. The slash with stock tires is not that fun to me. No traction and still can't get high speed from the truck due to flipping. I love my slash, but I'm wanting to get something into the 70 mph range and still be able to bash, road race, and off road race for fun.

if you wanna stay with traxxas then the e-revo might be something to consider. I have seen vids of guys getting them up to insane speeds and they aren't too fragile. Not sure how deep your pockets are though. You may want to consider a truggy by the sounds of it. Are you interested in doing a kit or staying with RTR only? There are some pretty good 1/8th truggy kits out there from a few companies that are worth looking at. Welcome to the forum BTW. Quite a few nice guys here!

Thanks for the replies. So I stopped my my lhs today to do some more looking. And sitting on the display was a redcat rampage xb 5th scale gas buggy. I must admit, the thing looked amazing. I have always wanted a gas rig, just havent pulled the trigger on one. The only experience I have with redcat is my nephews Caldera. And that thing is total crap imo. Never get more than 10 minutes out of it before something breaks with some light bashing. And when I say light bashing, I mean it, I have never broken anything of my v2 x-maxx, and my 11 year old daughter has only broken a few things on her v1 x-maxx. With that said.....I am seriously considering picking this up. I know its totally different than what I was looking for. But it is intriguing. I looked it over for quite a while and it seems well built. Lots of aluminum parts, good hardware. I think with a nice tx this would be a fun car. But the fact that its a redcat does worry me. Does anyone have any experience with redcats "high end" stuff.

I think everyone here agrees, RedCat is sketchy. Very hit-or-miss, mostly miss. What about HoBao? Look at the Hyper 10TT 80% roller. Nice specs for $200. You pick your own radio set, servo, and motor/ESC combo, and paint the body. Some guys put crazy big/fast systems in these and bash them. Not without good aftermarket bumper sets, tho. T-Bone Racing makes awesome ones. Great parts support from NitroHouse. Had mine for years, love it.

It's always fun trying to decide. :p It usually takes me months to make up my mind on a 1/10 RC purchase. After finally owning a 1/8 buggy, my mind can be made up in a matter of hours now. That is of course if I want another 1/8 scale.

@ bikerman806: You pretty much have the larger scale and 1/10 scale RC platforms covered. Just get an 1/8 scale buggy and be done with it.

Thanks for all the info. As much as I liked the look of the rampage, I just couldn't take the gamble. Going to wait and get a dessert buggy xl or something similar when that time comes. In the mean time, I have decided on a 8th scale for sure, just narrowing it down now.
