gluing tires

What is involved in gluing tires to rims? Is it just a matter of running some CA between the tire and the rim or is it more complicated than that?

A little bit of prep time and some pinpoint CA adaptors good to go...

I like to punch my vent holes in the center of the tires, and before gluing the tires on, I seal up the wheels vent holes.

Leather punch that I use...https://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Sized-9-H...ss!17870!US!-1

Bob Smith Industries - Insta-Cure Thin/Super Thin Glue Pocket CA has been a favorite CA of mine for many, many years.

But, I'll use just about any thin CA in a pinch. Thin CA because I like the glue to run down the bead of the tire as I rotate it. Medium CA is a bit to thick for my liking.

I run my RCs on a very rough dirt track that is infused with little pebbles. Those little pebbles, combined with dirt, are very abrasive. That's why I seal my wheel's vent holes with E6000. I've found that I now get very little debris inside my tires. My foams last so much longer.

I use a dab of E6000 to seal the holes up.

Thanks for the response, Rusty. I understand the gluing part now but the vent holes are a new concept for me. Do you put them in the tires or the wheels and why put them there at all?
Obviously, I am new to cars--been doing planes since 1972 but am pretty ignorant when it comes to cars.

IMO, a person should always put vent holes in the tire and NOT in the wheel/rim. Especially, off-road situations. I don't know why companies still insist on putting vent holes in their wheels. Running with holes in the wheels and no holes in the tires will not allow dirt, debris, and water to exit. Having vent holes on the tires allows dirt (that does manage to find it's way in) to be flung out.

Air must be released upon hard landings as trapped air will mess up your handling of your tires. The foam inserts support the tires so that the tires do not lose shape.

I used to have three piece wheels, back in the day, that "sealed" the tires. They worked most of the time, but every once in awhile air would escape during a hard landing. The wheels would not let air back in, and I would have flat spots.

Thanks, Rusty

I really liked Bob Smith Industries actual Tire Glue. It was a rubberized CA glue that was real nice and thick; and when it dried, it dried to a matte black color almost identical to the sidewalk of the tire. I would use that glue over regular CA if you can find it.
