Question about taping tires
Well I'm in a pickle got my new Pro-line prime T tires in today and planed to tape them BUT the inside of the tire is not smooth its had a diamond grid. This of course would give very little surface area for the tape to stick to. i then thought about using the thread and glue method but im afraid it would add to much weight to the tire. after having to fill most of the grid up with glue would put alot of stress one my drive line
is there anything i can do? |
What are you doing with your RC that is requiring taping? Speed runs?
|
Yup
|
tape never holds but for a couple runs anyway... for speed runs I would invest in 17mm hex adapters and then run GT8 wheels with belted radials like those from sweep:

Tires that balloon a lot will not benefit from taping. The tape will let go exactly how Bill says it will. Been there and done that myself. I don’t tape tires anymore. Get the right tire that doesn’t balloon as much and you’ll be in better shape. |
Agree , better off getting the right tires .
Taping only lasts so long . 17mm hex adapter and 1/8th wheels is the way to go . Sweeps , GRPs or even 1/8th foam tires will hold up at 60+ mph . |
i was looking at these https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jaco-Low-Pr...5.c10#viTabs_0
my hang up is the looks im doing this on my Jammin crt.5 its like 11th scale all this tires will be just huge on it lol. Also the 17mm adapters 40bucks for a set hoping to stay at the 12mm wheel size if i can |
I would think they would be ok .
Let us know how you go , speed runs are usually great or very disappointing . |
If you don't go with the belted tires, blue closed cell foam inserts are WAY better than the stock white open cell inserts.

60mph?????? thats not really that fast for rc, anything on 3s is gonna hit those speeds, just use anything.... if the tyre balloons great, its actually going to increase your speed anyway.
bigger tyre = more distance traveled with 1 revolution :) My recommendation would be to just stock tyres and then when ya start hitting speeds over 80mph then re evaluate? |
