Help to improve local RC track dirt
 

Hey all,
My local RC track used red baseball dirt for a track. It turns to dusty, sandy conditions as soon as it dries out.
Is there any cheap way to make it like clay?
I was wondering if a concrete or plaster mix sprinkled on top would help.
Gotta try something/anything. My car is always red and covered in red gritty dust after every run.
Loamy isn't the word to describe how this track breaks down. Its more like sugar sand in the corners and some hard spots that have a dusty top surface.

Is there anything I can offer the track that will keep it together?

I would contact Chris or Mike Allison over at Thornhill Racing Circuit, they have used various blends of additive to help keep a layout solid, but I suspect you will more than likely need to change all your dirt :(

Is there anything simple I can mix in a pump sprayer and spray over the track surface thats not harmful to the environment?

I know they have experimented with various blends of "dirt glue" and additives over the years, I was talking to Chris about it recently but forgot the name of the product he was using, if he's around the track tonight, I will ask him again. Not sure how often he checks the message board but will tell him you sent one for him to check as well.

If I had to guess, something like this product here might work, though I am not sure if there is a more economical way of buying something like this in bulk that the Allison's may be using:

I believe full scale dirt oval tracks put calcium down to hold in the moisture.

I did speak with the track owner and he said any type of laundry detergent would help act as a glue for the dirt, but he didn't feel confident that baseball mound dirt would hold up as it's designed to be re-shaped where a higher clay content is better with almost no sand in the mixture is ideal.

Everyone I talk to recoils in fear when I say calcium for the track. They say it will rust your car bad.

If you properly maintain your car and keep it clean I don't think it would be an issue.
