Shimming diffs on madstorm truck

hello all, not sure if this is in the right category. I’m going to be converting my madstorm .28 to brushless. I got all my stuff together, just gotta order it all. I need to shim my diffs, and am having a hard time finding the shims I need. Can I just go to the local hardware store and grab the right sized washers or do they need to be specifically for rc? Thanks

I highly doubt a hardware store will have diff shims. 8x16mm bearings are common on diffs on 1/8 scale platforms. I do believe Exceed uses them. So, 13.5 x 15.8 x .03 mm are, more than likely, the size shims you need. You will also find 13 x 16 x .X mm shims in different thicknesses.

Thank you. Which shims would go where?

Many different vids out there on shimming, but here is an example:

Another thing I just noticed, I’ve looked up a few videos and noticed that some people put their shim on the inside of the bearing vs the outside of the bearing. Does it make a difference which side of the bearing the shim goes on?

Outside the bearing. On most diffs, the outdrives prevent you from getting the bearings off.
