starter box battery?

got a starter box that needs a new battery. it had what i believe is a 12v motorcycle battery in it. it's toast, won't take a charge.
iv got some options.
1. make a pack out of some old but still healthy 3300mah nimh cells. (i have everything required to make a pack)
2. make a connector that uses 2 of my 2 cell lipo battery's in series.
3. buy a cheap dedicated 4 cell lipo (would a 3 cell do the job?)
4. replace it with a new version of what i took out sense i found one in amazon for cheap ($23)
5. get bored and do both 1 & 2 cause why not? eventually get annoyed do #4 cause its cheap and wish i had done #3.

so what's your 2 cents?

I run my bump box on a 4S Li-Ion pack I made from cells I harvested from drill packs and power banks. Just about anything 11-14v will do the trick, though NiXX packs are probably the least desirable due to their internal resistance and current draw limitation. But they work. Since you have options, I’d do the easiest one first and see if it works.

been thinking about this off and on today. decided im not putting another 12v lead acid battery in it. frankly it's just to heavy.
ill probably get bored and make a nimh pack just because. that'll hold me over for now and can at least start it without having to dig my lipo's out.
but i was looking on AMain at work today and found this https://www.amainhobbies.com/ecopowe...p-4000/p292309 it would be a cheap easy install. so im probably going to throw one in the cart on my next buying spree.

That would certainly do the trick, though you could use a 3S pack reasonably well also.

wow, might order this later... https://www.amainhobbies.com/ecopowe...p-4011/p403326

That reminds me of the 2S LiFE receiver packs Hobbyking had/has - they were 1100maH and around $6 each. They’ve been the best receiver packs I’ve ever had - blows NiMH out of the water.

With those 3S packs, you could run a pair in parallel if you need more capacity. Since your bump box probably doesn’t have a LVC, it might help prevent the packs from going below critical voltage. Then again, bump boxes don’t suck much life from a pack if you can tune an engine decent.

i don't need that much capacity. i don't race, this is just used to start an RC10GT on occasion.

i already have a lipo receiver pack. way more power than the 4 cell AAA battery packs i used to run.

just an update.
i found a couple 1700mah nicd packs in a drawer that were still good and made a 12 cell. and then "modified" the starter box. i added a Deans plug to the wires inside the box (for the future). then made a pigtail to allow me to plug the battery in on the outside of the box. spins pretty fast. shouldn't have any issues starting the .15 in the RC10GT.
