Hi Guys!

I'm wondering if I can used 30% of helicopter fuel on any rc engine car? Is that will be ok or is to high in nitro? Helicopter fuel is high in oil....any input will be appreciate it.....Thanks!

Well i believe that you could use that high content with a .21, but if you have anything smaller you should get 20 or 10 percent fuel.

I usually run 20% in all my cars and trucks, from .12-.21


I think the car fuel has a different oil content, might want to make sure.

Helicopter fuel as well as most fuels that have over 25% nitro have all synthetic oil in them at approx. 18% because synthetic oil readily blends with nitro. Fuels with synthetic oil tend to burn "cleaner" without an oily residue. Fuels with a combination of synthetic and castor oil tend to leave a residue from the castor. Castor has a higher flash point and can withstand a "lean" run without breaking down and provides an extra measure of protection to the engine. All synthetic oil will work fine, just make sure you don't "over lean" the engine as an all synthetic oil is less "forgiving " to lean runs.

I do not agree that the all synthetic fuels can not handle a lean run as well as the castor blends. I have seen the castor burn and turn brown all over my muffler when the synthetic oils just wipe off without a trace. The muffler gets a lot hotter then the cyclinder ever will.

I have used my Cool Power 30% in 0.049, 0.061, 0.09, 0.10, .15, .25, .32H, 40, .45, .61, .65, and a spiked the fuel for my 1.20 Fs. If you use this fuel you may see some performance drop if you go back to a lower nitro content.

I wouldn't i think they call it helicopter fuel for a reason and they say not to use it in r/c engines nothing over 20% because anything else's has too high of an oil content

Helicopter fuel is different because it has a higher percentage of oil - since helicopters don't get as much cooling, more oil is added to help keep it lubed without going too rich. if there is not enough oil, it may heat up too fast. A car doesn't need all this extra stuff for cooling - all that is needed is to cut a hole in the front windsheild for car engine cooling.

I use 15% Cool power for my heli, and for my car i used 20% byrons (smelled good when burned :)) then switched over to 25% Blue Thunder for the car...

For the heli i'd rather use a lower % nitro fuel to keep the heat down so i can go a bit leaner.


So the answer is YES, you can try the heli fuel, but you will most likely be getting a lot of oily residue all around unless you have some type of rear exhaust setup.

I bought a slightly used Traxxas Nitro Rustler with a Pro .15 engine in it a year ago. The previous owner was using Blue Thunder 30% fuel. After trying to adjust the engine to run more reliably(richen the high speed needle) the engine suddenly quit. It turned out the crank shaft broke at the port opening. After talking to several people I was told that high nitro could be responsible for the damage. I am not completely sure what caused the failure, but the crank shaft was not cracked or defective at time of purchase. After switching to 10% fuel I have the engine running much cooler and more reliably. the performance drop is hardly noticable. I don't know if it true for all .12-.15 glow engines, but personally I would not recomend using such high nitro in these engines even though heli fuel has a lot of oil in it.

Just my $.02 for now.

Well, I guess that I been having allot of input or advises, I appreciate all the guys that have put a little of knowledge, I decide to stick with the 10% nitro it's cheaper though, I have another question for you guys, I'm trying to decide which radio I will get, I have in mind on two radios, one is the JR R-1 and the other one is the Airtronics M8, so, if you guys know which is the best one let me know, remember I'm not looking for a cheap radio, I'm looking for a good radio, any advice on this one will be appreciated....Once Again.... Well i would go with the M8 since everyone seems to like it. It recently got the readers choice award for RC car action and had ever since it came out. I would love to get a high quality FM radio and if I coud I would get the M8 but I am having cash problems so i am gonna stick with am for now.I really don't know that much about either but the JR R-1 and the M8 pretty much have the same features all of the top ends do but it really boils dwn to which brand you want
