Intake and Cooling Customizing

I have quite an agenda with my old HPI Super Nitro Rally :D. Taking my que from rbinnovation's I have 3 main projects I am working on. I've decided to do these to A) improve my car's cooling and thereby increase performance, acceleration, and speed B) having something to do on it other than bolt on boring old parts from the internet and C) seperate my car in some way from the average enthusiast. Goals!!! 1) I am making an intake scoop that feeds air from the front of the car behind the body's grill and inside the hood scoop using some rubber hosing from Radio Shack, a CPU Fan case for the scoop, and a dremel of course. 2) I am making a radiator of sorts that sits on top of the heat sink that blows fresh air onto the sink using a 1" by 1" micro CPU Fan my brother gave me, a toggle switch (from radioshack) and a 9v adapter and case holder that wires up to the toggle switch using some metal tape (also from radioshack, imagine that!). 3) I have a larger, 1.5" by 1.5" CPU fan with more power that I will mount at the front of the car behind the windshield aiming back towards the exhaust system and header to cool that as well. This will also be using a double throw single pull toggle switch in tangent with another 9v source. I am extremely excited about doing this and have managed to get all the materials for goals 1 and 2 and the fan for goal 3! Just thought I'd share my current ambitions to customize my car!:D:D:D:D:D:D This site is great and it has great people:D

Sounds good, but how much weight are the extra parts adding? I'm just thinking for the small increase in power(at least I think it'll be fairly small), will the added bits make the overall difference in performance negligable?

Yeah I pretty much just realized that myself (the weight I mean). I need a bigger engine [&:] It's really not that much more weight involved. The power increase is probably completely unnoticable but I think it's fun to try my hand at some goodies from radio shack [sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: Intake and Cooling Customizing

As of today I have created and installed the entire fan system. I also had an idea from watching an off road challenge with some rally's. I thought it would be cool to install a custom roll cage. I bought two thin but very strong slabs of durable metal from lowe's and some mounting screws and nuts. I bent them into shape using a vice, my eyes, and my hands. I trimmed them and tapped them with my dremel. They aren't threaded so I had to secure it with the nuts. Anyway, the damn rollcage looks fantastic!!! I mounted it to opposing ends of the body posts and there are no unwanted side effects. I'll post some pics soon. The only problem is, the damn rollcage weighs a goddamn ton [:@]. So I've decided to only install them when I go jumping or offroading with the rally. That way my on road performance won't lose any speed.

sounds like your building a tank, all this cooling would be nice but where are you driveing the desert. It sounds like quite the plan tho.

I used the fan idea on my landmax 2...took it off an old graphics card i had. It looks cool but I sometimes question if its better than a big hole in the wind screen.
