Gear question
I have a 1/10 thunder tiger ssb that has 41 teeth on the spur gear and 14 teeth on my pinion gear. If a have the calculation and the math right than it would have a 2.92 gear ratio (maybe??). Does this mean that I have pretty good low end acceleration and not to much top speed?? I new to all this gearing stuff so any explaination would help.:D
Thanks -Blackdog |
RE: Gear question
Your current ratio says that you'll have good top end but, lame bottom. for good acceleration and good top, you generally wantit to be in the mid 3:1's; if ballistic bottom is what you're after, then try something that will give you a 4 or 5:1. Now this is for pure bottom end only, if you want the best top end, shoot for anything around 2:1 or 1:1 or even overdrive it (1:2; first # being your bell and second # being your spur). for general running, I would just go with a 42/14 or a 41/12, which ever one is easier to change. If you want a more precise ratio, figure in the gear ratios on your front and rear diffs; this will give you your final drive ratio.

RE: Gear question
I seriously doubt you have 41t spur unless you did a cutom mod to allow it. You need to check again.
You have a link to the RC? |
RE: Gear question
ill check again studdysession but i was pretty sure that it was somewhere very close to 41. I'll post again a little later. Also what do you mean by a link to the rc. Sry if that question seems kinda dumb but im clueless about what you mean.

RE: Gear question
If you can post a pic that shows a picture of what you are asking questions about. Personally off hand I am not familiar with the RC you are asking about.

I just checked the # of teeth on the spur again and i got 41 again. I just uploaded the ssb picture. I hope that it shows up because this is the first time that i have ever tried to put a picture on.

RE: Gear question
Thanks for the pic - So this is electric, right?
You have link to manufacture site? |
RE: Gear question
No it's not electric, it's actually one of the few 1/10 nitro buggys out there.
Here's a link to TT's website(i hope this is a link, once again i am new to this forum): http://tiger.com.tw/ |
RE: Gear question
OK - I was thinking electric. Normally for electric they use 48p gears and spur gears are not that small for electric. So it was throwing me off.
Now that I am on the same program, it all makes sense. Sorry for the mix up. |

RE: Gear question
Yes it does matter. His gear ratio would be completely different. Would make a big difference in his speed.
