RE: Should we have a First Timer Forum?
Maybe just some threads like the internal gear ratio thread that folks can read through for some general info about:
electric vs. nitro st vs. mt electric motor turns, winds, relation to esc, etc. links to product sites so people can do a little research for themselves brushless vs. brushed electric motor systems general tuning and setup tips |
RE: Should we have a First Timer Forum?
That would be a great idea. Sick of hearing is this good, which is better and how do I clean a car.
Great Idea |
RE: Should we have a First Timer Forum?
No doubt, and all new users should be directed to the forum upon account acctivation.

RE: Should we have a First Timer Forum?
Think about it. Then when they have a question, no one experienced enough will ever see it to answer them. And give them the great advice that people come to expect from RCU.:D

I say no, we should just make a FAQ Sticky.

RE: Should we have a First Timer Forum?
i agree with studysession. if we did something like that i know that i probably would not visit it. it would be unfair to those who really need help getting into this hobby.

RE: Should we have a First Timer Forum?
From a newbies point of view I have to vote no for the forum. I also feel that us newbies would be left there. I understand everyone is green at one time but, my two sons ans I rely on you experienced guys to help out with problems and questions. We spend hours surfing the forums here and elsewhere looking for the all important answers so we dont make the wrong decisions on buying and upgrading. Just my 2 cents....

RE: Should we have a First Timer Forum?
I voted yes, but would like to see it set up like the aircraft one for beginners. I feel that we should give back a little bit of what we get in this hobby. Every new guy you help is one more you get to beat at the track!

RE: Should we have a First Timer Forum?
What I think we should do is have one I mean if I was a mod for it I'd definately take the responsiblity as in reminding people to help the Newbies as well as help them myself considering I'm not yet a vetern I think I could handle it as well as the others here that are really good at giving advice the mods for that forum should be aliens8mycow, goku, milkman, ftx9;), Po kid, jakjr. Okay well I'm not saying all but maybe some of us oh yes and of course one should be losidude_2 for his awesome idea, I'm confident enough to say it would really help all the Newbies in RCU and put up our ratings for helping the Newbies they can spread the word fast believe me(first hand experience):D Well that's my say in this thanks a lot.

RE: Should we have a First Timer Forum?
Well as I just recently posted in this forum for help as a n00b, I most definitely think a specific forum area for us that are just getting started would be a great idea...

RE: Should we have a First Timer Forum?
Maybe I should edit my original post...
I would hate to see something that appeared as "hey newb's - go here and sort out your own answers because no one has time for you" I do think that a positive, constructive faq section would make things a lot easier. A lot of people search for info before posting a question - problem is, if it's a pretty common question, it could take a week to go through all the threads! Or on the flipside, a lot of these guys can't spell to save their soul, so you have a hard time trying to guess how to mis-spell a keyword so that you get a result! To me, that's not helpful. So they ask the question, and wouldn't you know it, someone with a short fuse (or bad attitude) comes back with "use the search feature" or "that's already been asked 1000 times" or worse yet makes fun of them. I can honestly say that those situations personally embarrass me - as members of this community, that behavior reflects poorly on each and every one of us. I think it would be simpler to have those common questions answered in an easy to find place, then if there is additional info needed, a person can ask a more intelligent question in the forums, and hopefully get a bit more respect and some intelligent answers in return. It doesn't have to advertise anything in regards to new users, new to rc, or anything - just make it as obvious as the link to the classified section, and people will find it and use it on their own! :D |
