Problem with old battery packs
 

Ive got a few old battery packs here that im trying to get back into good working condition so I can use them for bahsing.

Ive been woring on them for a while now and have made some progress, the packs started out holding about 300mah and now they are holding closer to 1000mah, their rated capacities are 1900mah, 1700mah, and 2400mah.

The problem im having is voltage wise the packs are getting a full charge (all peak out at around 8.3 volts) so my charger apperently thinks the packs are done and shuts them off. Its like the packs are charging up fine but arent holding their capacity.

Any way to get them to hold their full capacity again? Ive tried slow charging but that seems to work worse than fast charging. Ive tried overcharging them on a timed charger but that doesnt seem to be helping, ive tried overdisharging them but that doesnt seem to be helping either.


Also how low (voltage wise) should I disharge them to? my good charger stops them at about 5 volts which I guess is about right, but I dont know....


If I cant fix them then its no big deal, ill just buy some new packs.

About the only way to fix old packs is to take them apart and condition each cell individually on something like a turbomatcher. The problem with trying to revive old packs as a set is they will only get as good as the worst individual cell in the pack. When i was racing electric we would break down all our packs at the end of the season and condition all the individual cells. Once that was done we would then run them all through the turbomatcher and regroup the cells with he closest numbers.

I think ill just take deans connectors off and throw the packs away.

They're all cheaper packs anyways and probobly costed 30 bucks at the most when new, plus they're the inline type so it'd be more trouble then theyre worth.

I dont think youd want them, runtimes are like 2 minutes [:'(]

Anyways, I forgot one pack is in a side by side configuration, im going to do (sorta) like FHM said and work with each cell seperately with that pack.

I'm just going to be get a few gp3300 packs (unmatched, cheap ones) to replace these old packs.

Yeah thats where Im going to get them from.

I took one of teh inline packs apart and apperently itll never get back into good condition as all the cells had apperently popped.

Ive been working with the side by side pack and I think I am making some progress with it, ive been working on the cells individualy and they seem to be slowly gaining more and more of their capacity. If I can get it to hold its full 2400mah itll make me a good bashing pack.
